Social
Studies plays an important role in developing
students’ understanding of various aspects of life, including economic, social,
cultural, political, and geographical aspects. Geography learning within Social
Studies helps students understand the relationship between humans and their
environment, especially as a subject taught at the junior high school. One of
the challenges encountered is the low level of geographical literacy, which is
mainly due to the lack of adequate technology-based learning resources. An
alternative solution to improve geographical literacy is the development of
Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media using the Assemblr Edu application.
This research aims to develop
appropriate and effective learning media to enhance geographical literacy in
Social Studies learning. The study adopts the ADDIE development model (Analyze,
Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate). The research design used is a one-group
pre-test post-test design. This study was conducted at SMP Wijaya Putra
Surabaya. The research subjects include media experts, material experts, Social
Studies teachers, and students of SMP Wijaya Putra. Data collection techniques
involve interviews, objective tests, and response questionnaires.
The results of the AR media development indicated that
the product is feasible, making it suitable for use in Social Studies (IPS)
learning. The effectiveness of using AR media in IPS learning also demonstrated
positive outcomes, as shown by the calculated improvement in students’
geographical literacy. This improvement was based on a comparison between students’
initial and final abilities, which revealed a significant increase. In
addition, student responses showed highly positive feedback. The use of AR
technology through the Assemblr
Edu application has been proven to enhance students’ geographical
literacy and serves as an innovative learning medium in Social Studies
education .
