A DANCE WORK ENTITLED "JAGO PABARATAN" AS A VISUALIZATION OF THE STRUGGLE OF COCKFIGHTERS IN DRAMATIC FORM

The dance work entitled "Jago Pabaratan" is a dramatic dance work that raises the phenomenon of cockfighting as a social reflection. Cockfighting, which is still widely practiced secretly in the North Surabaya area, is the background for the creation of this dance work. This dance work visualizes the struggle of a rooster that is raised, trained, and finally fought for human interests in gambling practices. Through the exploration of representative and symbolic movements, the choreographer depicts the emotional conflict, suffering, and helplessness of the chicken in the arena. The process of creating this dance work uses the construction method I with a dramatic approach that emphasizes the expression and dynamics of the atmosphere, without depicting a linear storyline. Artistic elements such as makeup, clothing, dance accompaniment, properties and settings are designed to support the visualization of a strong and expressive cockfighting atmosphere. This dance work is not only a medium of aesthetic expression, but also a form of social criticism of cockfighting practices that harm human values and animal welfare.
