Mata kuliah mesin bensin pada Prodi D3 Jurusan Teknik Mesin Fakultas Teknik Universitas Negeri Surabaya pada proses pembelajarannya menggunakan Engine cutting yang berfungsi untuk membantu dan mempermudah mahasiswa mempelajari suatu engine. Pembelajaran praktik dengan media engine cutting biasanya digunakan untuk mata kuliah teknologi motor mesin. Berdasarkan pengalaman pembelajaran dan survei lapangan di laboraturium mesin bensin pada Prodi D3 Teknik Mesin, Jurusan Teknik Mesin, Fakultas Teknik, Universitas Negeri Surabaya, dapat disimpulkan proses pembelajaran masih menggunakan media engine cutting dengan teknologi mesin lama, yang masih menggunakan sistem OHV (Overhead valve) dan menggunakan sistem pengapian dan sistem bahan bakar yang konvensional. Sehingga dirasa kurang untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan tentang perkembangan teknologi yang sudah banyak diterapkan di setiap produsen mobil. Misal seperti sistem pengapian dan supplay bahan bakar yang sudah menggunakan sistem ECU (Electronic Control Unit). Tujuan dalam tugas akhir ini untuk membuat engine trainer cutting baru dengan mesin yang menggunakan teknologi ECU (Electronic Control Unit) seperti yang sudah banyak digunakan oleh produsen mobil saat ini.
Perancangan ini dilaksanakan di laboratorium mesin bensin Jurusan Teknik Mesin Fakultas Teknik Universitas Negeri Surabaya, waktu pengerjaan 2 bulan, dengan menggunakan metode eksperimen dan proses pengerjaan meliputi:
1) menentukan mesin yang dipakai, 2) mendesain rangka, 3) perhitungan beban dan penentuan bahan rangka yang dipilih, 4) melakukan pengerjaan rangka, 5) uji coba trial & error, 6) penggunaan alat.
Hasil perancangan didapatkan spesifikasi alat menggunakan besi kanal U65 sebagai penyangga mesin. Dan terwujudnya trainer engine cutting Mitsubishi Lancer baru dan dapat membantu mengenal teknologi baru saat ini dalam proses pembelajaran mata kuliah teknologi mesin bensin dan melengkapi fasilitas di laboratorium mesin bensin Jurusan Teknik Mesin Universitas Negeri Surabaya.

Gasoline engine courses at D3 Study Program Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, State University of Surabaya in the learning process using Engine cutting which serves to help and facilitate students learning an engine. Practical learning with engine cutting media is usually used for machine motor technology courses. Based on the learning experience and field survey in the gasoline engine laboratory at D3 Department of Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Surabaya State University, it can be concluded that the learning process still uses media engine cutting with old engine technology, which still uses the OHV system (Overhead valve) and use conventional ignition systems and fuel systems. So it is deemed insufficient to increase knowledge about technological developments that have been widely applied in every car manufacturer. For example, such as an ignition system and fuel supply that already uses the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) system. The purpose of this final project is to create a new cutting engine trainer with machines that use ECU (Electronic Control Unit) technology as is already widely used by car manufacturers today.
The design was carried out in the gasoline engine laboratory of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, State University of Surabaya, working time of 2 months, using the experimental method and the work process included:
1) determining the machine used, 2) designing the frame, 3) calculating the load and determining the chosen frame material, 4) carrying out the frame work, 5) trial & error trials, 6) using the tools.
The results of the design obtained tool specifications using U65 channel iron as a buffer machine. And the realization of the new Mitsubishi Lancer cutting engine trainer and can help to recognize new technology today in the learning process of gasoline engine technology courses and complete facilities in the gasoline engine laboratory of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Surabaya State University.
