FOAM CLAY AS A 2D ART MEDIUM FOR GRADE FOR GRADE VIII STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 28 SURABAYA
Karya seni rupa 2D merupakan materi pembelajaran seni rupa di sekolah. Untuk memberikan pengalaman berkarya yang lebih menarik bagi siswa, foam clay dipilih sebagai media karya 2D ragam hias bertema flora karena mudah dibentuk dan menyenangkan, sehingga dapat menumbuhkan kreativitas serta semangat siswa dalam berkarya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan persiapan, proses, hasil karya, serta tanggapan guru dan siswa terhadap pembelajaran berkarya 2D menggunakan foam clay di SMP Negeri 28 Surabaya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Persiapan meliputi penyusunan modul ajar, materi, alat dan bahan. Proses penelitian dilaksanakan dalam empat pertemuan, yaitu pemaparan materi, pembentukan foam clay, penataan dan penempelan pada media, finishing dan pengumpulan karya, serta pengisian angket, dokumentasi, dan wawancara. Hasil penilaian menunjukkan 8 karya berkategori baik sekali dengan rentang nilai (90–100), 5 karya berkategori baik dengan rentang nilai (80–89), dan 1 karya berkategori cukup baik dengan rentang nilai (70–79). Respon siswa dan guru menunjukkan tanggapan positif, media foam clay memberikan pengalaman berkarya yang baru, sehingga diharapkan dapat menjadi alternatif yang menarik untuk meningkatkan keterampilan teknis dan kreativitas siswa dalam pembelajaran seni budaya.

2D artwork is part of the art curriculum in schools. To provide more engaging creative experience, foam clay was chosen as the medium for 2D artwork with a floral theme because it is easy to shape and enjoyable to work with, thereby fostering creativity and enthusiasm among students. This study aims to describe the preparation, process, results, and responses of teachers and students to 2D artwork learning using foam clay at SMP Negeri 28 Surabaya. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method. The preparation process included the development of teaching modules, materials, tools, and supplies. The process was carried out in four sessions: presentation of materials and shaping of foam clay, arrangement and attachment to the medium, finishing of works, plus questionnaires, documentation, and interviews. The assessment results showed that 8 artworks were categorized as very good with score range of (90–100), 5 artworks were categorized as good with a score range (80–89), and 1 artwork was categorized as fairly good with a score range of (70–79). The responses from students and teachers were positive. It is hoped that this will become an interesting alternative to improve students' technical skills and creativity in arts and culture learning.
