Perjalanan Pahlawan Katniss dalam Novel The Hunger Games oleh Suzanne Collins

Katniss’ Hero’s Journey in Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games 

Hero’s journey atau monomyth adalah sebuah formula atau pola yang umum didalam sebuah cerita fiksi yang melibatkan pemeran utama atau bisa disebut dengan pahlawan di dalam cerita yang pergi berpetualang, berhadapan dengan berbagai krisis lalu kembali ke tempat asalnya saat telah berhasil dan menang. Didalam penelitian ini, penulis mengeksplorasi pola dari Hero’s Journey atau monomyth didalam sebuah karya sastra, yang tak lain adalah sebuah novel remaja yang berjudul The Hunger Games. Novel ini adalah sequel pertama dari trilogi Hunger Games yang ditulis oleh penulis asal Amerika, Suzanne Collins. Karena cerita dari The Hunger Games ini adalah tentang petualangan di masa depan distopia, maka teridentifikasi sebuah pola umum dari monomyth atau Hero’s Journey di dalam cerita, saat melakukan penelitian. Thesis ini mendiskusikan tentang Hero’s Journey dari Katniss Everdeen sebagai peserta dalam turnamen mematikan, The Hunger Games yang ke tujuh puluh empat. Thesis ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi 12 tahapan dari hero’s Journey dari Katniss menurut teori Christopher Vogler. Selain itu, skripsi ini juga bertujuan untuk menjabarkan sifat-sifat arketipal kepahlawanan dari Katniss Everdeen

Hero’s journey or monomyth is a common formula or pattern in a fiction or tales that involved the main character also known as the hero of the story who goes on an adventure, facing various kind of crisis and then comeback home after the won the quest in the adventure. In this thesis, the author explored the pattern of Hero’s journey or monomyth in a literary work which is a young adult novel entitled The Hunger Games. This novel is the first sequel of The Hunger Games trilogy written by American author, Suzanne Collins. Because the story in The Hunger Games is about an adventure is about an adventure that takes place in dystopian future, a common pattern of monomyth or hero's journey is identified in the story during the research. This thesis discusses the hero's journey of Katniss Everdeen as a tribute of the annual tournament, The 74th Hunger Games. This study aims to identify the 12 stages of Katniss' hero’s journey according to the theory by Christopher Vogler. Moreover, this study is also reveal the archetype of hero of Katniss Everdeen.
