The study aimed at finding out the English textbook “When English Rings the Bell” published by the government based on the 2013 Curriculum fulfill the criteria or not through analyzing: 1) the content component and 2) the language component. By showing the plus and the minus, it is visible the quality of the English textbook for the Junior High School in the seventh grade. According to theory, the analysis of the textbook is an effort to separate or to examine the implications or the problems related to the textbook to find out whether or not the content and the language of the textbook is appropriate for a particular language teaching context..

The research method which was used is the descriptive qualitative research design. The descriptive presentation of qualitative data as content analysis. The researcher used the instrument to collect data through classification, tabulation, and evaluation. Therefore in doing the analysis on the English textbook, the steps were used among others: reading all the related documents especially the English textbbook as the main research, making tables to classify the items legally stated by the Board of the Education National Standard (BSNP), tabulating the existing English textbook to the destributed items orderly and evaluating the English textbook based on the theories and the requirements in the BSNP.

The results of the research clearly showed that the analysis on the English textbook published by the Education and Culture Ministry based on the 2013 Curriculum, however having the minus but the English textbook was usable. It was visible from the analysis results in the tables that most of the results denoted the plus more. So the English textbook fulfilled the requirements or the criteria as a good textbook. Therefore, the English textbook published by the government as a single textbook was applicable for the seventh grade of the Junior High School students. Regarding this, the teacher as the doer of the teaching-learning activity in the class should select and adapt the teaching materials with the students' characteristics and atmosphere. Finally, the English textbook can reflect the use for the publisher and even for the stakeholder of the education to develop the next English textbook.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan jika buku bahasa Inggris yang berjudul “When English Rings the Bell” dipublikasikan oleh pemerintah berdasarkan Kurikulum 2013 memenuhi kriteria atau tidak melalui: 1) komponenisi isi dan 2) komponen bahasa. Dengan menunjukkan kelebihan dan kekurangan, ini bisa dilihat mutu dari buku Bahasa Inggris untuk kelas VII Sekolah Menengah Pertama. Menurut teori, analisa buku teks adalah suatu usaha untuk membagi atau menilai implikasi atau permasalahan berkenaan dengan buku teks untuk menemukan jika isi dan bahasa buku teks tepat untuk konteks pengajaran bahasa tertentu..

Metode penelitian yang dipakai adalah desain penelitian kualitatif diskriptif. Penyajian diskriptif dari data kualitatif adalah sebagai analisa isi. Peneliti menggunakan instrumen untuk mengumpulkan data dengan klasifikasi, tabulasi dan evaluasi. Oleh sebab itu dalam melakukan analisa buku teks Bahasa Inggris langkah-langkah dipakai, antara lain: membaca semua dokumen terkait khususnya buku teks bahasa Inggris sebagai inti penelitian, membuat tabel untuk mengklasifikasikan item-item yang secara legal dinyatakan oleh Badan Standar Nasional Pendidikan (BSNP), menabulasi buku teks Bahasa Inggris pada item yang dibagi secara urut dan menilai buku teks Bahasa Inggris berdasar teori dan persyaratan yang dinyatakan dalam BSNP.

            Hasil penelitin dengan jelas menunjukkan bahwa analisa terhadap buku teks Bahasa Inggris yang dipublikasikan oleh Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan berdasarkan Kurikulum 2013, bagaimanapun memiliki kekurangan tetapi buku teks itu bisa dipakai. Itu bisa dilihat dari hasil analisa di tabel bahwa hampir semua hasil menunjukkan lebih banyak kelebihan. Jadi buku teks Bahasa Inggris .ini telah memenuhi persyaratan atau kriteria sebagai buku teks yang baik. Oleh sebab itu, buku teks Bahasa Inggris yang diterbitkan pemerintah sebagai buku teks tunggal bisa diterapkan untuk siswa kelas tujuh Sekolah Menengah Pertama. Terkait ini, guru sebagai pelaku kegiatan belajar mengajar di kelas, seharusnya memilih dan menyesuaikan materi pengajaran dengan karakteristik dan atmosfir siswa. Akhirnya, buku Bahasa Inggris bisa merefleksi penggunaan bagi penerbit dan bahkan pemegang kebijakan untuk mengembangkan buku teks Bahasa Inggris selanjutnnya.
