Implementation Of The Wire Wrapping Technique For Accessory Making By The Students Of Class VIII-6 At SMPN 5 Sidoarjo
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh masih terbatasnya pembelajaran seni kriya logam di sekolah, khususnya pada materi pembuatan aksesoris menggunakan teknik Wire Wrapping. Pembelajaran seni rupa umumnya masih berfokus pada media konvensional sehingga siswa belum memperoleh pengalaman dalam mengolah bahan logam menjadi karya yang memiliki nilai fungsi dan estetika. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan proses implementasi teknik Wire Wrapping, hasil karya aksesoris yang dihasilkan siswa, serta tanggapan guru dan siswa terhadap penerapan teknik tersebut. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan subjek penelitian 36 siswa kelas VIII-6 SMP Negeri 5 Sidoarjo dan satu guru Seni Budaya. Data diperoleh melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan dengan uji keabsahan melalui triangulasi sumber dan triangulasi teknik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa implementasi teknik Wire Wrapping dilaksanakan melalui empat kali pertemuan yang meliputi penyampaian materi, pembuatan sketsa, praktik pembentukan dan pelilitan kawat, serta penyelesaian karya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa karya aksesoris siswa memperoleh kategori sangat baik sebanyak 9 siswa (25%), sangat baik sebanyak 24 siswa (66,67%), dan kurang sebanyak 3 siswa (8,33%) dalam menerapkan teknik Wire Wrapping berdasarkan aspek kualitas karya, kesesuaian desain, estetika serta keunikan dan inovasi. Guru dan siswa memberikan tanggapan positif karena pembelajaran dinilai mampu meningkatkan kreativitas, ketelitian, keterampilan, serta memberikan pengalaman baru dalam berkarya menggunakan media logam. Dengan demikian, teknik Wire Wrapping dapat menjadi alternatif pembelajaran seni kriya yang efektif untuk mengembangkan kemampuan berkarya siswa
This study was motivated by the limited teaching of metal crafts in schools, particularly regarding the creation of accessories using the wire-wrapping technique. Art education generally still focuses on conventional media, so students have not yet gained experience in transforming metal into works that possess both functional and aesthetic value. This study aims to describe the process of implementing the wire-wrapping technique, the accessories produced by students, and the responses of teachers and students to the application of this technique. The study employed a qualitative approach with 36 eighth-grade students from Class VIII-6 at SMP Negeri 5 Sidoarjo and one Arts and Culture teacher as research subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, with validity testing conducted through source triangulation and methodological triangulation. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the Wire Wrapping technique took place over four sessions, which included material presentation, sketching, practicing wire shaping and wrapping, and completing the artwork. The research results show that 9 students (25%) received a “very good” rating, 24 students (66.67%) received a “good” rating, and 3 students (8.33%) received a “needs improvement” rating for their accessory projects in applying the wire-wrapping technique, based on the aspects of work quality, design appropriateness, aesthetics, and uniqueness and innovation. Teachers and students gave positive feedback because the learning process was deemed capable of enhancing creativity, precision, and skills, as well as providing new experiences in creating works using metal as a medium. Thus, the wire-wrapping technique can serve as an effective alternative in arts and crafts education to develop students’ creative abilities.
