ABSTRAK
Pulau Jawa merupakan salah satu pulau yang cukup strategis didalam pengembangan ekonomi nasional, serta pulau yang banyak penduduknya. Dengan banyaknya jumlah penduduk membutuhkan moda transportasi yang memadai sebagai angkutan orang dan barang. Kereta Api pilihan yang tepat karena tingkat ketepatan waktu dan efektifitas yang tinggi, dalam upaya mendukung kelancaran transportasi Kereta Api pemerintah mengembangkan jalur ganda lintas Surabaya Pasarturi-Bojonegoro-Jakarta.
Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode komperatif, yaitu membandingkan perbedaan karakteristik operasional pasca pengembangan double track dan single track serta pengaruh besar pasca pengembangan double track.
Hasil dari penilitian pasca pengembangan double track adalah frekuensi kereta api penumpang dan barang meningkat 16% dan 18%, headway menurun 8%, kapasitas lintas meningkat 16%.
Adanya jalur ganda dan kapasitas angkut yang bertambah , diharapkan agar penggunaan jalur ganda dapat dimaksimalkan sehingga beban dijalan raya berkurang dan mengurangi angka kecelakaan. Hendaknya untuk kedepan, PT KAI lebih banyak membangun jalur ganda dan jalur kereta api baru. Masyarakat harus meningkatkan kewaspadaan saat melewati palang pintu perlintasan kereta api dengan adanya jalur double track.

ABSTRACT
Java Island is one of the islands that is quite strategic in the development of the national economy, as well as the island which has many inhabitants. The large number of inhibitants requires adequate modes of transportation as people and goods transportation. Railway is the right choice because of good timeliness and high effectiveness, in an effort to support the progress of railway transportation, the government developed a double track coridor Surabaya Pasarturi-Bojonegoro-Jakarta.
This study uses a comparative method, that is comparing the differences between operational characteristics after the development of double track and single track and the major influence after the development of double track.
The results of this study are the frequency of passenger and freight trains increased by 16% and 18%, headway decreased by 8%, crossing capacity increased by 16%.
The increase of double track and transportation capacity, is expected to maximize its use, so that the burden on the highway and the number of accidents is reduced. PT KAI should build more double tracks and new railway lines and for the people to have to beware when they accross the railway line.
