Salah satu komponen sebuah novel adalah cover. Cover adalah sebuah pandangan pertama bagi pembaca, dan ikut mempengaruhi minat pembaca pada novel. Pada penelitian ini yang diteliti adalah cover novel Raditya Dika. Cover novel yang diteliti berjumlah tujuh buah yakni Kambing Jantan, Cinta Brontosaurus, Radikus Makankakus, Babi Ngesot, Marmut Merah Jambu, Manusia Setengah Salmon, dan Koala Kumal. Cover novel Raditya Dika ini memiliki keunikan dibandingkan yang lain karena adanya foto penulis dan penggunaan unsur nama hewan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk membahas hal-hal sebagai berikut : 1) Visualisasi desain cover novel Raditya Dika; 2) Hubungan tanda dan makna dalam visualisasi desain cover novel Raditya Dika.

Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif yang bersifat deskriptif. Data diperoleh dari sumber data primer yakni cover novel Raditya Dika dan data hasil korespondensi terhadap Adriano Rudiman selaku salah satu ilustrator cover novel Raditya Dika. Dan data sekunder yakni referensi buku terkait penelitian. Analisis dilakukan dengan menggunakan teori semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce untuk memaknai tanda-tanda visual pada cover novel. Analisis melewati tahap reduksi data yakni pemilihan cover novel. Lalu tahap Penyajian data yang dijabarkan secara deskriptif. Dan tahap terakhir adalah pengambilan kesimpulan dari hasil analisis.

Hasil analisis cover novel Raditya Dika dengan menggunakan teori semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce adalah sebagai berikut : 1) Tampilan desain cover Raditya Dika menarik karena memiliki konsep yang unik dan berbeda; 2) Persamaan dari ketujuh cover novel adalah penerapan foto penulis dan nama hewan sebagai judul; 3) Komponen-komponen cover novel seperti judul, subjudul, ilustrasi dan fotografi berlaku sebagai tanda yang digolongkan ke dalam ikon, indeks dan simbol. Tanda ini memiliki makna yang berhubungan dengan cerita novel.

There are many components of a novel, one of it is a cover. Cover is first impression for the readers and affects the interest of novel readers. This research is about Raditya Dika’s novel cover that consist of seven novel cover. The seven novel cover is Kambing Jantan, Cinta Brontosaurus, Radikus Makankakus, Babi Ngesot, Marmut Merah Jambu, Manusia Setengah Salmon, and Koala Kumal. This seven novel cover is unique than others because its contains writer’s photo and use animal for the novel title. Therefore, the purposes of this research is 1) Visualisation Raditya Dika’s novel cover design; 2) The relation of signs and meanings on visualisation Raditya Dika’s novel cover design.

This research uses descriptive qualitative analysis method. Datas are got from primary data source, that is Raditya Dika’s novel cover and data from correspondence with Adriano Rudiman as one of Raditya Dika’s novel cover illustrator. Secondary data source is book references about semiotic. Charless Sanders Peirce’s semiotic theory is used for analyse the meaning of sign in novel cover. The next step is explains the result in descriptive method. The last step is takes conclusion from the analysis result.

The analysis result of Raditya Dika’s novel cover that uses Charles Sanders Peirce semiotic theory is 1) Raditya Dika’s novel cover design has unique and different concept; 2) The similarity of this seven novel cover is consists of writer’s photo and animals are used for the title; 3) Novel cover components like title, subtitle, illustration and photography acts as signs that grouped into icon, index and symbol. These sign has a meaning that relates with novel story.
