Teknik Snowball Throwing dalam Pengajaran Teks Recount untuk Membantu Pemahaman Membaca Siswa Sekolah Menengah Pertama

Dalam pembelajaran bahasa, membaca merupakan keterampilan penting untuk memperoleh pengetahuan dan mencari informasi. Meskipun demikian, beberapa siswa mungkin mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami teks tertulis. Oleh karena itu, guru bahasa Inggris harus memprioritaskan keterampilan pemahaman siswa ketika mengajar membaca. Dalam kaitan ini, penerapan teknik Snowball Throwing dapat memfasilitasi proses belajar mengajar dengan membantu siswa dalam memahami teks secara efektif. Jadi, tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah penerapan teknik Snowball Throwing, dan tanggapan siswa terhadap penerapan teknik Snowball Throwing dalam pembelajaran membaca teks recount untuk siswa kelas delapan.

Penelitian ini diterapkan pada siswa kelas delapan dan dilakukan secara deskriptif dengan desain kualitatif. Dalam proses pengumpulan data, peneliti melakukan kegiatan observasi, memberikan dua tugas kepada siswa dan melakukan wawancara. Instrumen untuk mengumpulkan data adalah catatan observasi, dan wawancara.

Berdasarkan hasil dari peneman, kegiatan observasi mengungkapkan keberhasilan pelaksanaan proses belajar mengajar. Baik guru maupun siswa dengan tekun menyelesaikan semua langkah kegiatan. Para siswa menunjukkan pemahaman yang baik dan akurat dari teks. Secara khusus, siswa menyatakan bahwa teks tersebut mudah dipahami dan mereka mampu memahaminya dengan baik. Selain itu, para siswa melaporkan bahwa teknik tersebut membantu pemahaman mereka dan membuat mereka senang selama proses belajar mengajar.

            Singkatnya, pemanfaatan Teknik Snowball Throwing terbukti bermanfaat dalam membantu pemahaman siswa terhadap teks. Selanjutnya, siswa mengungkapkan rasa bahagia saat terlibat dalam penerapan teknik ini.

In language learning, reading is a crucial skill for acquiring knowledge and seeking information. Nonetheless, some students may encounter difficulties when it comes to comprehending written texts. Hence, English teachers should prioritize students' comprehension skills when teaching reading. In this regard, the implementation of the Snowball Throwing Technique can facilitate the teaching and learning process by helping students in comprehending the texts effectively. So, the objectives of this research are the implementation of snowball throwing technique, and the student’s responses toward the implementation of snowball throwing technique as the technique in teaching reading recount text to the eight graders.

This research was applied to the eight graders of junior high school and conducted in descriptive way using qualitative design. In the process of collecting data, the researcher did an observation, gave the students two tasks and did an interview. The instruments to collect the data are observation checklist notes, and interview.

According to the findings, the observation revealed a successful implementation of the teaching and learning process. Both the teacher and students diligently completed all the steps of the activity. The students demonstrated good and accurate understanding of the text. Specifically, the students expressed that the text was easy to comprehend, and they were able to understand it well. Furthermore, the students reported that the technique helped their comprehension and brought them happy during the teaching and learning process.

In summary, the utilization of the Snowball Throwing Technique proves beneficial in helping students' comprehension of the text. Furthermore, students expressed a sense of happiness while engaging in the implementation of this technique.
