Abstract
one of the basic competencies of 2013 curriculum in the XI grades of Senior
High Sxhool is demonstrating characters in drama which is the learning
objective is to master the lesson topic about drama by demonstrating speaking
skills to perform knowledge of humanitarian arts and culture. Thus, the
students will be able to organizing and valuing the study of drama based on
their talents and interests. In line with that, media and games can be used to
learn about demonstarting characters in drama. In this study, the media that is
used are expression ball and werewolf games .
The purpose of this study are (1) describing the application of Expression
Ball media through the Werewolf game in teaching demonstrating characters in
drama to the XI gardes of senior high school students, (2) describing the
speaking ability of XI gardes of senior high school students in learning about
demonstrating characters in drama using the expression ball media through the
Werewolf game , (3) describing the students’ response in learning about
demonstrating characters in drama using the expression ball media through the
Werewolf game.
The reasearch is experimental research. This stidy is designed as true
experimental study which is using the pretest and posttest of the control
group. The research method is quantitative descriptive. The data in this study
are observations, learning outcomes and students’ responses. All of the data is
collected from the observation, tests
result, and questionnaire sheets.
The results of the study showed that the application of the expression ball
media in werewolf game in learning about demonstrating characters in drama
could give the positive impact. an experimental class of XI gardes students in
Kemala Bhayangkari 1 High School showed a good result of the activities. It can
be proven by the average results obtained from student activities by 89% and
the average results obtained from teacher activities by 93%
The speaking ability of the XI grade
students of Kemala Bhayangkari students before the application of expression
ball media in learning about demonstrating characters is relatively low. The
average pretest value in the control class is 62.22 and the average pretest
value in the experimental class is 64.30. After the application of expression
ball media in learning about demonstrating characters, students gain a higher
speaking ability. the results of the posttest in the experimental class were
83.47. The results of the t-test show that t-count is greater than t-table
which is obtained by t-arithmetic 5.44> 1.99. from the data above, it can be
concluded that the application of expression ball media through werewolf games
can give positive effects to the students speaking ability.
The results of student responses showed
positive responses of the application of ball expression media through werewolf
games in learning about demonstrating characters. One aspect shows that 86% of
students agree that by using ball expression media through werewolf games in
learning about demonstrating characters they can increase their ability in
speaking.
