                Peserta didik pada tingkat SMP mengalami kendala dalam belajar bahasa Mandarin. Salah satu kendala tersebut yaitu tentang keterbatasan bahan ajar. Kendala tersebut membuat peneliti memiliki gagasan untuk mengembangkan handout bahasa Mandarin sebagai suplemen bahan ajar. Tujuan penelitian ini guna mengetahui proses pengembangan dan kualitas handout bahasa Mandarin.

                Jenis penelitian dan pengembangan (research and development) dengan model ADDIE yang terdiri dari lima tahapan, yaitu analisis kebutuhan, desain, pengembangan, implementasi, dan evaluasi. Peneliti mengunakan teknik tes, angket, observasi serta validasi materi dan desain dengan instrument soal uji kompetensi, angket kebutuhan peserta didik, angket respon peserta didik , lembar observasi dan lembar validasi untuk mengumpulkan data. Kemudian menggunakan rumus uji-t dan skala likert untuk menganalisis data yang kemudian dijelaskan dengan metode deskriptif.

                Hasil penelitian berupa proses pengembangan yang dimulai dari analisis kebutuhan, desain produk dan meteri, pengembangan  desain produk dan materi, Implementasi bahan ajar handout bahasa Mandarin hingga evaluasi telah dilakukan pada pengembangan dan Implementasi. Hasil penelitian diperoleh dari tiga aspek yaitu aspek kevalidan diperoleh dari validasi ahli materi dengan perolehan 76% dan validasi ahli desain dengan perolehan 89% yang menyatakan  valid dan sangat valid untuk digunakan. Aspek keefektifan diperoleh dari hasil pretest-postttest terjadinya peningkatan pembelajaran dibuktikan dengan t_score ˂ t_signifikasi = 1,5˂5,08 dan observasi aktivitas peserta didik dengan perolehan 83% yang menyatakan handout bahasa Mandarin sangat efektif untuk digunakan. Aspek kepraktisan diperoleh dari angket respon peserta didik pada peserta didik kelas VIII A SMP Shafta Surabaya dengan perolehan 83% yang menyatakan handout  bahasa Mandarin sangat praktis untuk digunakan. Saran untuk peneliti selanjutnya untuk dapat mengembangkan handout bahasa Mandarin dengan lebih banyak materi penunjang dan tema.

Students at the junior secondary level experience obstacles in learning Mandarin. One such figure is about the limitations of teaching materials. These constraints make researchers have the idea to develop Chinese language handouts as supplementary teaching materials. The purpose of this study was to determine the development process and the quality of Chinese handouts.

This type of research and development with the ADDIE’s model consists of five stages, namely needs analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The researcher uses test techniques, questionnaires, observation and material validation and design with a question instrument of competency test, questionnaire of the needs of students, questionnaire responses of students, observation sheets and validation sheets to collect data. Then use the t-test formula and Likert scale to analyze the data which is then explained by the descriptive method.

The results of the research are in the form of a development process that starts from needs analysis, product design and material, product and material design development, implementation of Chinese handout teaching materials until evaluation has been carried out on development and implementation. The results of the study were obtained from three aspects, namely validity aspects obtained from material expert validation with the acquisition of 76% and design expert validation with the acquisition of 89% which stated valid and very valid to use. Effectiveness aspects obtained from the results of the pretest-posttest of increased learning is evidenced by the t_score ˂ t_{signification} = 1.5˂5.08 and observation of student activity with the acquisition of 83% which states that Chinese handouts are very effective to use. Practical aspects were obtained from the questionnaire responses of students in class VIII A Surabaya Shafta Middle School with the acquisition of 83% which stated that Chinese handouts were very practical to use. Suggestions for future researchers to be able to develop Chinese handouts with more supporting material and themes.
