Penerapan Strategi Belajar Mind Mapping untuk Meningkatkan Pemahaman Konsep Peserta Didik
Implementation of Mind Mapping Learning Strategy to Improve Students' Concept Understanding
Pada kegiatan pra-penelitian menunjukkan hasil belajar peserta didik yang rendah pada materi sistem pernapasan manusia. Hal tersebut disebabkan karena belum mencapainya pemahaman konsep sesuai indikator pembelajaran yang telah ditetapkan. Solusi yang dirumuskan yaitu melatihkan strategi belajar kognitif berupa mind mapping untuk membantu proses belajar. Strategi mind mapping dapat memfasilitasi pencapaian indikator pemahaman konsep pada level kognitif Taksonomi Bloom, sehingga dipilih sebagai solusi mengatasi permasalahan. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan keterlaksanaan pembelajaran, mengetahui efektivitas strategi mind mapping dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep, dan mendeskripsikan respons peserta didik terhadap strategi mind mapping. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan yaitu pre-experimental dengan rancangan one group pre-test and post-test design. Subjek penelitian melibatkan 32 orang peserta didik kelas VIII-F di SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Taman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) keterlaksanaan pembelajaran dengan menerapkan strategi mind mapping telah terlaksana dan memperoleh kriteria sangat baik, (2) strategi mind mapping efektif digunakan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman konsep peserta didik yang ditunjukkan dari perolehan nilai t hitung > t tabel yaitu 12.440 > 2.036 dan nilai n-gain sebesar 0.70 dengan kriteria tinggi, dan (3) peserta didik memberikan respons positif terhadap penerapan strategi mind mapping dengan nilai persentase sebesar 92%. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan strategi belajar mind mapping dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep peserta didik.
Pre-research activities show low student learning outcomes on human respiratory system material. This is due to not achieving concept understanding according to predetermined learning indicators. The solution formulated is to train cognitive learning strategy in the form of mind mapping to help the learning process. The mind mapping strategy can facilitate the achievement of concept understanding indicators at the Bloom's Taxonomy cognitive level, so it was chosen as a solution to overcome the problem. The purpose of this study was to describe the implementation of learning, determine the effectiveness of mind mapping strategy in improving concept understanding, and describe students' responses to mind mapping strategy. The type of research used is pre-experimental with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The research subjects involved 32 students from VIII–F class at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Taman. The results showed that (1) the implementation of learning by applying the mind mapping strategy had been carried out and obtained very good criteria; (2) the mind mapping strategy was effectively used to improve students' concept understanding as shown by the acquisition of the t count > t table value, namely 12.440 >2.036 and the n-gain value of 0.70 with high criteria; and (3) students gave a positive response to the implementation of the mind mapping strategy with a percentage value of 92%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the implementation of mind mapping learning strategy can improve students' concept understanding.
