The problem experienced by the 10th grade students
of SMK Negeri 6 Surabaya in the teachings of Mandarin
is the difficulty of making Mandarin sentences due to lack of vocabulary
mastery by the students . This happens because the teachings method used by the
teachers for the students of SMK Negeri 6 Surabaya is the direct teachings
method which causes the passiveness of the students in the class and the
materials obtained by the students are only focused on the teacher . In order to solve the problem, I used the cooperative
teachings method with combining the two types of this cooperative method which
are Two Stay Two Stray type and Snowball
Throwing type in the learning of mastering the vocabulary for making
Mandarin simple sentences. T he goals of this research are to explain the
implementation of the combining method of Two Stay Two Stray type and Snowball
Throwing type, discover the effect of the implementation of
the combining type Two Stay Two Stray and Snowball Throwing in teachings, also the students’ response toward the
implementation of the combining cooperative method Two Stay Two Stray and Snowball Throwing in teachings of mastering the vocabulary for making
Mandarin simple sentences.
This research is True-Experimental Design research in the form of Control Group Pre-Test Post-Test Design with quantitative approach. The population used in
this research are all of the 10th grade students of SMK Negeri 6
Surabaya year 2018/2019. For choosing the sample of the research, I
used the Cluster Random Sampling technic which the 10th grade students of
class APH 2 as the experiment class and the 10th grade students of
class APH 4 as the control class. The total of the research subjects is 70
students with 35 students for the control class and 35 students for the
experiment class.
The result of observation analysis from teachers and
students activities in the class for the first and second meeting in both the
control class and the experiment class received 61%-80%. According to the
percentage of the received data, if the data is measured using the Likert scale, the data is categorized as
“good”. The result of pre-test and post-test analysis in both the control
class and the experiment class are t0 = 6,74 db =
68, t0,05 = 1,67 , this shows that t0 = 6,74 ≥ t0,05 =
1,67 . This means, there is a significant positive effect
in the ability to master the vocabulary for making Mandarin simple sentences
between the students of experiment class using the combining cooperative method
Two Stay Two Stray and Snowball Throwing compared with the students of control class using the
direct teachings method.
The result of
response analysis from the students of experiment class toward the
implementation of combining cooperative method Two Stay Two
Stray type and Snowball
Throwing type in the
teachings of mastering the vocabulary for making Mandarin simple sentences, as
seen from the Likert scale, is
categorized as “very good” and “good”. This happens because from 15 questions,
there are 13 questions which received the response within the 80%-100%
percentage category and the other two questions are received the response
within the 61%-80% percentage category.
