Keterampilan Proses Sains Siswa SMP Setelah Mengikuti Praktikum Virtual Lab Menggunakan PhET
Science Process Skills of Junior High School Student After Following Virtual Lab Practice Using PhET
Keterampilan proses sains diperlukan untuk hidup di abad 21, namun selama pandemi Covid-19, pembelajaran IPA di Indonesia dilaksanakan secara daring dan hybrid yang berpotensi mengurangi keterampilan proses sains. Praktikum virtual lab dengan PhET menjadi solusi yang dapat digunakan untuk melatihkan keterampilan proses sains. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan keterampilan proses sains siswa setelah mengikuti praktikum virtual lab menggunakan PhET selama pandemi Covid-19. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pra eksperimen dengan one group pretest posttest design. Sampel penelitian sebanyak 80 siswa SMP kelas VIII. Pengambilan data dilakukan melalui pretest posttest keterampilan proses sains dan angket respon siswa. Aspek keterampilan proses sains yang dianalisis pada penelitian ini meliputi keterampilan mengamati, menarik kesimpulan, memprediksi, mengkomunikasikan, hipotesis, menafsirkan dan mengelompokkan. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan N-gain, uji paired sample t-test, dan effect size cohen’s d. Hasil uji paired sample t-test menunjukkan bahwa setelah mengikuti praktikum virtual lab mengunakan PhET keterampilan proses sains siswa meningkat secara signifikan dengan effect size cohen’s d sebesar 1.74, dan N-gain 0.6. Hal ini menujukkan bahwa mengikuti praktikum virtual lab menggunakan PhET dapat digunakan sebagai solusi untuk meningkatkan keterampilan proses sains siswa selama pembelajaran daring di saat pandemi Covid-19. Oleh karena itu selama pandemi Covid-19 praktikum virtual lab menggunakan PhET sebaiknya digunakan dalam pembelajaran IPA.

Science process skills are needed to live in the 21st century, but during the Covid-19 pandemic, science learning in Indonesia was carried out online and hybrid which could potentially reduce science process skills. Virtual lab practicum with PhET is a solution that can be used to practice science process skills. This study aimed to describe students' science process skills after participating in a virtual lab practicum using PhET during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research method used was pre-experimental with one group pretest posttest design. The research sample were 80 students of 8th grade. Data collection were carried out through a pretest posttest of science process skills and student response questionnaires. Aspects of science process skills analyzed in this study include observing, drawing conclusions, predicting, communicating, hypothesizing, interpreting and classifying skills. The data obtained were analyzed using N-gain, paired sample t-test, and Cohen's d effect size. The results showed that after participating in the virtual lab practicum using PhET, the students' science process skills increased significantly with a cohen's d effect size of 1.74, and an N-gain of 0.6. This showed that participating in virtual lab practicum using PhET can be used as a solution to improve students' science process skills during online learning. Therefore, during the Covid-19 pandemic, virtual lab practicum using PhET should be used in science learning
