STUDENT WRITE MATHEMATIC COMMUNICATION PROFILE IN
SOLVING JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL MATHEMATICS PROBLEM ON MATERIAL OF GEOMETRY BASED ON

Communication has important role in
Education in Indonesia. Communication is one of Education’s goal. Communication
is also one of basic ability standard in NCTM. Student’s communication ability
are related to Student’s mathematical ability.
The aims of this research is to
describe the written communication profile of students with high, medium, and
low ability in solving junior high school mathematics problem on material of
geometry. This is a qualitative research using test and interview methods. The
subjects used in this research were three junior high school students, they are
one student with high ability, one student with medium ability, and one student
with low ability.
The result of the research showed
that subjects with high mathematical ability were able to express the
information given in problems in mathematical form like image, symbols, or
algebraically, able to use mathematical symbol to present problems correctly,
able to make mathematical models to express mathematical concept and solution,
and able to make conclusion of the result. Subjects with medium
mathematical abilities are unable to express information given in the form of
images or mathematical symbols, are able to use mathematical terms or symbols
appropriately, are able to make mathematical models to express concepts and are
able to make conclusions to express results. Low-ability subjects are unable to
express information in images or mathematical symbols, are able to use
mathematical terms or symbols correctly, are unable to make mathematical
models, and are unable to draw conclusions to express results.
