THE USE OF “BITTE” IN THE TEXTBOOK NETZWERK NEU A1

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pola urutan kata dan fungsi kata bitte dalam buku Netzwerk Neu A1. Kata bitte merupakan partikel yang sering digunakan dalam komunikasi sehari-hari bahasa Jerman, terutama untuk menyampaikan permintaan dengan nuansa sopan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik analisis permutasi untuk mengkaji posisi sintaksis bitte dalam struktur kalimat berdasarkan teori topologi kalimat Altmann dan Hofmann (2008) serta Eisenberg (2016) untuk mengidentifikasi kekhasan posisi bitte. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bitte dapat menempati tiga posisi utama dalam struktur kalimat, yaitu gatra depan (Vorfeld), gatra tengah (Mittelfeld), dan gatra belakang (Nachfeld), dengan posisi gatra tengah sebagai posisi yang paling fleksibel. Dari segi fungsi, bitte paling banyak digunakan sebagai penanda permintaan sopan, baik dalam bentuk permintaan langsung maupun tidak langsung, serta memiliki fungsi lain seperti klarifikasi, tanggapan terhadap terima kasih, dan penekanan urgensi. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan bitte tidak hanya merepresentasikan kesopanan linguistik, tetapi juga mencerminkan kompleksitas sintaksis dalam bahasa Jerman. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memperkaya kajian sintaksis partikel bitte.

This study aims to describe the word order patterns and functions of the word bitte in the textbook Netzwerk Neu A1, an elementary-level German language learning book. The word bitte is a particle commonly used in everyday German communication, particularly for expressing requests with a polite nuance. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using the permutation technique to analyze the syntactic position of bitte within sentence structures, based on the sentence topology theories of Altmann and Hofmann (2008) as well as Eisenberg (2016), in order to identify the distinctive positions of bitte. The findings indicate that bitte can appear in three main sentence positions: the front field (Vorfeld), the middle field (Mittelfeld), and the post-field (Nachfeld), with the middle field being the most flexible. Functionally, bitte is most frequently used as a politeness marker in both direct and indirect requests. Additionally, it serves other functions such as clarification, responses to gratitude, and expressing urgency. These findings show that the use of bitte in Netzwerk Neu A1 not only reflects linguistic politeness but also illustrates the syntactic complexity of the German language. This study is expected to contribute to enrich the syntactic analysis of the particle bitte.
