DIASPORIC IN TANAH SEBERANG NOVEL BY KURNIA GUSTI SAWIJI: CULTURAL STUDIES PERSPECTIVE
This study aimed to describe, 1) the forms of the diasporic in a novel entitled Tanah Seberang by Kurnia Gusti Sawiji, 2) the factors that cause a person to become a diasporic in the Tanah Seberang novel by Kurnia Gusti Sawiji, and 3) the role of the diasporic while abroad in the Tanah Seberang novel by Kurnia Gusti Sawiji. The theory used was diasporic based on James Clifford culture studies point of view. The theory divides the diasporic into several parts namely form, cause, and role. The research method used was descriptive qualitative with data relating to units of the problem statement, while the approach was objective. The data source used the novel Tanah Seberang by Kurnia Gusti Sawiji with data which were text units that are related to the problem formulation. Data collection techniques by means of documentative, and data analysis using hermeneutic work. For the validity of research data using several stages of validity. The results showed three points namely, 1) the form of the diasporic in the novel Tanah Seberang by Kurnia Gusti Sawiji in the form of behavior resulting from the integration of two cultures namely the culture of their home country and their second country. Such behavior is in the form of life outlook, lifestyle, past memories, alienation, hopes, citizenship, suffering, and the desire to return to the homeland. 2) the causes of being a diasporic are based on economic or occupational reasons, love relationships, and educational factors, and 3) the role of the diasporic when abroad is encompassing education, social, and economic fields both helping fellow diasporic or serving the country.
