The Effect of Cognitive Reflection on Aggressive Driving among Passenger Car Drivers
Tingginya kepemilikan kendaraan roda empat di Indonesia berkontribusi terhadap meningkatnya kepadatan lalu lintas dan risiko kecelakaan, yang sebagian besar disebabkan oleh faktor manusia, khususnya perilaku aggressive driving. Salah satu faktor psikologis yang secara teoretis berpotensi memengaruhi perilaku tersebut adalah cognitive reflection, yaitu kemampuan individu menahan respons intuitif dan melibatkan pemikiran reflektif sebelum bertindak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh cognitive reflection terhadap aggressive driving pada pengemudi passenger car di Indonesia. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain regresi linear. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner daring kepada 80 pengemudi passenger car yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi, dengan pengukuran cognitive reflection menggunakan Verbal Cognitive Reflection Test (CRT-V) dan aggressive driving menggunakan Aggressive Driving Behavior Scale (ADBS). Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan regresi linear dengan mengontrol variabel usia dan jenis kelamin. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa cognitive reflection tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap aggressive driving (p > 0,05), demikian pula variabel usia, sementara jenis kelamin menunjukkan kecenderungan pengaruh namun belum mencapai taraf signifikansi statistik. Nilai koefisien determinasi yang rendah mengindikasikan bahwa model hanya menjelaskan sebagian kecil variasi aggressive driving. Simpulan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa aggressive driving tidak dapat dijelaskan secara langsung oleh kemampuan refleksi kognitif, melainkan dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain yang bersifat emosional, situasional, dan sosial, sehingga diperlukan pendekatan yang lebih komprehensif dalam upaya pencegahan perilaku berkendara agresif.
The high level of passenger car ownership in Indonesia contributes to increasing traffic density and accident risk, with human factors identified as the dominant cause, particularly aggressive driving behavior. One psychological factor that is theoretically assumed to influence such behavior is cognitive reflection, defined as the ability to inhibit intuitive responses and engage in reflective thinking before acting. This study aimed to examine the effect of cognitive reflection on aggressive driving among passenger car drivers in Indonesia. The study employed a quantitative approach using a linear regression design. Data were collected through an online questionnaire from 80 passenger car drivers who met the inclusion criteria. Cognitive reflection was measured using the Verbal Cognitive Reflection Test (CRT-V), while aggressive driving was assessed using the Aggressive Driving Behavior Scale (ADBS). Data analysis was conducted using linear regression while controlling for age and gender. The results showed that cognitive reflection did not have a significant effect on aggressive driving (p > 0.05). Age also did not show a significant effect, while gender demonstrated a tendency toward influence that did not reach statistical significance. The low coefficient of determination indicates that the regression model explained only a small proportion of variance in aggressive driving behavior. In conclusion, aggressive driving cannot be explained solely by cognitive reflection, but appears to be influenced by emotional, situational, and social factors.
