Comparison of Mesh WiFi Performance and Access Point as Home Solution Using Quality of Service (QoS) Method

Perkembangan teknologi yang semakin masif hingga saat membuat internet menjadi kebutuhan sehari-hari dan tidak dapat ditinggalkan. Sehingga tidak sedikit orang yang menyewa ISP (Internet Service Provider) supaya perangkat mereka selalu terhubung dengan internet. Dalam penggunaannya sehari-hari, pernah kita jumpai bahwa seseorang yang terhubung dengan access point mengalami yang namanya sinyal jelek atau hilang  yang mengakibatkan koneksi dari perangkat yang digunakan orang tersebut ke internet menjadi lebih lambat atau bahkan tidak terhubung sama sekali. Dari pertanyaan itulah penulis ingin meneliti lebih dalam terkait perbandingan perangkat WiFi Mesh dan access point sehingga para calon pengguna perangkat tersebut diluar sana bisa membedakan dua hal tersebut berdasarkan perbandingan yang dilakukan oleh penulis. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode pengumpulan data berupa studi literatur dan pengujian pada perangkat terkait untuk menganalisis perbandingan kedua perangkat tersebut dari segi Quality of Service (QoS). Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan WiFi Mesh sebagai home solution sangat baik dalam mengatasi permasalahan disebutkan diatas. Analisis parameter throughput pada semua pengujian yang dilakukan berdasarkan standard TIPHON, terjadi kenaikan persentase throughput sebesar 5%-40% pada download dan upload pada saat menggunakan perangkat WiFi Mesh dibandingkan Access Point. Kemudian didapatkan persentase  penurunan throughput dari router mesh ke router mesh lainnya hanya sebesar 1%-9%. Sedangkan access point bawaan ISP yang mana pada percobaan jarak terdekat mengalami persentase penurunan mulai 23% dan pada jarak terjauh percobaan yang dilakukan terjadi penurunan hingga 95% throughput awal. Kondisi LOS juga mempengaruhi throughput penurunan sebesar 1%-36%. Begitu juga kondisi Non LOS menyebabkan penurunan throughput sebesar 2%-62%.

Massive development of technology has made the internet a daily necessity and cannot be abandoned. So quite a few people rent an ISP (Internet Service Provider) so that their devices are always connected to the internet. In our daily use, we have come across that someone connected to an access point experienced a bad or lost signal which resulted in the connection of the device used by that person to the internet being slower or not even connected at all. From this question, the author wants to research more deeply regarding the comparison of WiFi Mesh devices and access points so that potential users of these devices out there can differentiate between these two things based on the comparison made by the author. This research uses data collection methods in the form of literature studies and testing on related devices to analyze the comparison of the two devices in terms of Quality of Service (QoS). The test results show that using WiFi Mesh as a home solution is very good in overcoming the problems mentioned above. Analysis of throughput parameters in all tests carried out based on TIPHON standards, there was an increase in throughput percentage of 5%-40% in downloads and uploads when using WiFi Mesh devices compared to Access Points. Then it was found that the percentage reduction in throughput from a mesh router to another mesh router was only 1%-9%. Meanwhile, the ISP's default access point experienced a decrease in the percentage of the experiment at the closest distance starting from 23% and at the farthest distance the experiment carried out experienced a decrease of up to 95% in the initial throughput. LOS conditions also affect throughput decreasing by 1%-36%. Likewise, Non LOS conditions cause a decrease in throughput of 2%-62%.
