People with mental disorders (ODGJ) often
experience obstacles in carrying out daily activities, both physically and
socially, which have an impact on decreasing their independence. The Sidoarjo
PMKS Center organizes the Activity Daily Living (ADL) program as a social
rehabilitation effort to help ODGJ to live more independently in the social
environment. The purpose of this study is to explain the implementation of the
ADL program in increasing the social independence of ODGJ at the Sidoarjo PMKS
Center.
The method used in this study is descriptive
qualitative. Data collection techniques used include in-depth interviews,
participatory observation, and documentation. The data analysis process
includes three stages, namely data condensation, data presentation, and drawing
conclusions.
The results of the study showed that the
implementation of the ADL program was carried out systematically with a
communication approach, provision of resources, attitudes of implementers, and
a supportive bureaucratic structure. This program has been proven to increase
the independence of ODGJ, both in emotional, behavioral, and value aspects. The
emotional aspect is reflected in the ability of ODGJ to control emotions,
become calmer, and show psychological stability. The behavioral aspect is seen
from the improvement of daily living skills such as eating, bathing, dressing,
and carrying out religious activities independently. Meanwhile, the value
aspect is seen from the ability of ODGJ to understand and apply applicable
social norms, such as politeness, cooperation, and distinguishing between good
and bad behavior.
