Kurikulum pada mata pelajaran seni budaya dapat memberi kesan bagi peserta didik karena di dalamnya dapat leluasa mengeksplorasi kegiatan berkesenian dari tahap proses hingga kegiatan apresiasi seni. Namun, pada pelaksanaan pembelajaran peserta didik kurang diberikan eksplorasi media untuk berkarya. Pada pembelajaran seni rupa, eksplorasi media perlu dilakukan agar peserta didik mendapat pengalaman kreatif dalam berkarya. Oleh karena itu, diperlukannya inovasi media yang efisien dan efektif untuk menunjang kreativitas dalam pembelajaran seni rupa di sekolah.

    Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan persiapan pembelajaran, proses pelaksanaan pembelajaran, dan hasil karya serta evaluasi gambar ilustrasi Damar Kurung pada totebag oleh peserta didik kelas VIII B SMP YIMI Gresik Full Day School.

    Penelitian ini menggunakan metode pendekatan kualitatif yang bersifat eksploratif dan menggunakan berbagai teknik pengumpulan data diantaranya adalah observasi, wawancara kepada guru seni budaya, angket, dan dokumentasi. Selanjutnya dilakukan teknik analisis data dengan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan pada pembelajaran gambar ilustrasi Damar Kurung pada media totebag.

    Pada persiapan pembelajaran terdapat perencanaan pembelajaran yang mencakup modul pembelajaran, persiapan materi unsur prinsip seni rupa 2D, gambar ilustrasi, dan Damar Kurung . Persiapan media pembelajaran seperti totebag, kertas A3, cat fabric, kuas, dan palet untuk berkarya. 

    Proses pembelajaran selama tiga kali pertemuan di kelas VIII B dengan jumlah 15 peserta didik. Pada pertemuan pertama proses penyampaian materi gambar ilustrasi Damar Kurung serta pembuatan sketsa di kertas, pada pertemuan kedua memindahkan sketsa pada totebag serta proses pewarnaan, selanjutnya pada pertemuan ketiga peserta didik melanjutkan proses pewarnaan hingga finishing karya yang ditutup dengan presentasi karya di depan kelas. 

Hasil karya gambar ilustrasi Damar Kurung pada totebag kanvas berukuran 30 cm x 40 cm. Pada hasil karya peserta didik memperoleh nilai kategori sangat baik dengan nilai rata- rata 93 .Hal ini menunjukkan siswa mampu mempraktikkan menggambar ilustrasi Damar Kurung pada totebag dengan sangat baik. 

Respon guru seni budaya dan peserta didik terhadap pembelajaran ini sangat baik. Hasil angket peserta didik memperoleh nilai 81% dari 15 peserta didik merespon pembelajaran menyenangkan serta memberi pengalaman kreatif dalam berkarya Damar Kurung. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa pada pembelajaran gambar ilustrasi Damar Kurung pada totebag berhasil memberikan pengalaman berkarya pada media baru serta edukasi budaya Damar Kurung kepada peserta didik kelas VIII B di SMP YIMI Gresik Full Day School.

    The curriculum in the cultural arts subject can have an impact on students because it allows them to freely explore artistic activities from the process stage to art appreciation activities. However, in the implementation of learning, students are not given enough media exploration for creating works. In visual arts education, media exploration needs to be conducted so that students gain creative experience in their work. Therefore, there is a need for efficient and effective media innovation to support creativity in art education at school.

The purpose of this research is to describe the preparation of learning, the process of implementing learning, and the artwork as well as the evaluation of the Damar Kurung illustration on totebag by the eighth-grade students of SMP YIMI Gresik Full Day School.

  This research uses an exploratory qualitative approach and employs various data collection techniques, including observation, interviews with cultural arts teachers, questionnaires, and documentation. Subsequently, data analysis techniques are carried out with data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing on the learning of Damar Kurung illustration on totebag media.

In the preparation for learning, there is a lesson plan that includes learning modules, preparation of 2D visual art elements and principles materials, illustration drawings, and Damar Kurung. Preparation of learning media such as totebag, A3 paper, fabric paint, brushes, and palettes for creating artworks.

The learning process took place over three meetings in class VIII B with a total of 15 students. In the first meeting, the material on the illustration of Damar Kurung was delivered, and sketches were made on paper. In the second meeting, the sketches were transferred to totebag, and the coloring process began. Finally, in the third meeting, the students continued the coloring process until the finishing of their works, which were concluded with a presentation in front of the class.

The response from the cultural arts teacher and the students towards this learning is very good. The results of the student survey showed an 81% approval rating from 15 students who responded that the learning was enjoyable and provided a creative experience in creating Damar Kurung. This indicates that the illustration drawing lesson of Damar Kurung on totebag successfully provided an experience in working with a new medium and educating the culture of Damar Kurung to the students of class VIII B at SMP YIMI Gresik Full Day School.
