THE DYNAMICS OF KELUD CINEMA MALANG YEAR 1970-1995

Industri bioskop di Kota Malang telah melalui sejarah yang amat panjang, salah satu bioskop yang paling terkenal di Kota Malang adalah Bioskop Kelud. Bioskop ini didirikan oleh sekelompok anggota Brimob, dibawah naungan Yayasan Panjura pada tahun 1970. Bioskop Kelud berhasil menjadi salah satu bioskop yang paling diminati oleh masyarakat Malang, namun pada akhirnya harus berhenti beroperasi pada tahun 1995. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini akan menjawab dinamika sejarah Bioskop Kelud sejak berdiri hingga berhenti beroperasi, serta perjalanan Bioskop Kelud menjadi bioskop primadona masyarakat Malang, dengan menggunakan pendekatan sosial dan ekonomi. Permasalahan ini diteliti dengan menggunakan metode penelitian sejarah. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa Bioskop Kelud merupakan satu-satunya bioskop yang menggunakan sistem Drive-in Cinema di Jawa Timur, dan pernah menorehkan rekor penonton terbanyak pada masa itu. Akan tetapi, Bioskop Kelud terpaksa harus berhenti beroperasi karena para penonton bioskop mulai beralih menonton film melalui VCD, televisi, serta bioskop-bioskop di pusat perbelanjaan modern.

The cinema industry in Malang city has gone through a very long history, one of the most famous cinemas in Malang is Kelud Cinema. The cinema which was managed by a group of Brimob members under the auspices of the Panjura Foundation in 1970. Kelud Cinema succeeded in becoming one of the most popular cinemas by Malang people, but in the end it had to stop operating in 1995. Therefore this research will answer the historical dynamics of Kelud Cinema since established until stop operating, as well as the journey of Kelud Cinema to become the belle of the Malang people, using social and economic approaches. This problem is studied using historical researcj methods. The results showed that Kelud Cinema was the only cinema that used the drive-in cinema system in East Java, and had recorded the largest audience at the time. However, Kelud Cinema was forced to stop operating as cinema viewers began to switch to watching films via VCD, television, and cinemas in modern shopping centers.
