Tesis ini fokus pada berbagai jenis cinta yang dialami karakter dalam cerita Sputnik Sweetheart karya Haruki Murakami. Selanjutnya, tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkap dan mendeskripsikan jenis cinta dan faktor apa saja yang membuat karakter mengalami jenis cinta tersebut. Tesis ini menggunakan Triangular Theory of Love milik Robert J. Sternberg. Berdasarkan Analisa, Sumire mengalami liking dan romantic love, K mengalami infatuated love, sedangkan Miu menglami empty love. Penelitian ini juga menunjukkan factor yang berkontribusi pada jenis cinta yang dialami karakter, ketidaklengapan Oedipus complex menyebabkan Sumire mengalami romantic love terhadap Miu, dan rendahnya kepercayaan diri dan cinta tak terbalas yang dialami K membuatnya mengalami infatuated love.

This thesis focused on the various types of love of the characters in the novel entitled Sputnik Sweetheart. Furthermore, the aim of this study is to reveal and describe the types of love of the characters, and the factors that makes the characters experienced those types of love. This thesis using Robert J. Sternberg’s the triangular theory of love. Based on the analysis, Sumire is experiencing the liking and romantic type of love, K is experiencing Infatuated love, while Miu is experiencing Empty love. The study also shows the factors contributed to the characters’ types of love, the incomplete Oedipus complex which caused Sumire’s romantic love toward Miu, the low self-confidence and unrequited love leads to K’s infatuated love.
