Keefektifan Metode Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition Terhadap Pemahaman Membaca Siswa SMK

The Effectiveness of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition Method on Vocational High School Students' Reading Comprehension

Membaca adalah keterampilan penting untuk mempelajari bahasa di semua tingkat siswa. Dalam bidang akademik, keterampilan membaca yang ditekankan bagi siswa adalah membaca pemahaman. Pemahaman membaca adalah cara orang mendapatkan informasi penting dari teks tertulis secara efektif yang bertujuan untuk mengembangkan representasi semantik. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menyelidiki keefektifan metode Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) untuk meningkatkan pemahaman bacaan siswa, dan untuk mengelaborasi bagaimana persepsi siswa tentang penggunaan metode Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa.

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif yang merupakan penelitian pra eksperimen. Subjeknya adalah siswa kelas X di salah satu SMK di Surabaya. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tes dan angket. Peneliti mengumpulkan data dengan melakukan pre-test dan posttest dan memberikan kuesioner melalui google form. Hasil pre-test dan posttest dianalisis dengan menggunakan Wilcoxon dan hasil angket dianalisis dengan menggunakan Descriptive Statistic.

Hasil Wilcoxon menunjukkan bahwa metode CIRC terbukti efektif meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada penurunan dari pretest ke posttest, ada peningkatan sebesar 16,00 poin. Selisih antara pretest dan posttest adalah 0,000, kurang dari 0,05, menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan dengan menggunakan metode CIRC dapat secara efektif meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa.

Kemudian, hasil dari statistik deskriptif menunjukkan bahwa siswa percaya bahwa CIRC lebih mengembangkan keterampilan pemrosesan kelompok daripada keterampilan interpersonal. Bekerja dalam kelompok menawarkan kesempatan untuk terlibat dalam diskusi, berbagi ide, dan bekerja menuju tujuan bersama.

Reading is an important skill for learning a language at all levels of students. In the academic area, the reading skill that is emphasized for students is reading comprehension. Reading comprehension is the way people get important information from a written text effectively which aims to develop a semantic representation. The objectives of this study are to investigate the effectiveness of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method to improve students’ reading comprehension, and to elaborate on how students’ perception of using the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method to improve students’ reading comprehension.

This study is a quantitative research which is pre-experimental research. The subject is tenth-grade students in one of the vocational high schools in Surabaya. The instruments which are used in this study are test and questionnaire. The researcher collects the data by conducting pre- test and posttest and giving questionnaire through google form. The result of pre-test and posttest is analyzed by using Wilcoxon and the result of questionnaire is analyzed by using Descriptive Statistic.

The result of Wilcoxon showed that the CIRC method was found to effectively improve students' reading comprehension. The results of the analysis showed that there was no impairment from pretest to posttest, while there was an improvement of 16.00 points. The difference between pretest and posttest was 0.000, less than 0.05, indicating that the treatment using the CIRC method can effectively improve students' reading comprehension.

Then, the result from descriptive statistic showed that students believe that CIRC develops their group processing skill more than interpersonal skill. Working in groups offers opportunities to engage in discussions, share ideas, and work towards a common goal.
