Experience in Building Psychological Well-Being of Migrant Students in Surabaya
Mahasiswa perantau dari luar Pulau Jawa menghadapi berbagai tantangan psikologis selama menempuh studi di Surabaya, seperti keterpisahan dari keluarga, perbedaan budaya, serta tuntutan kemandirian, yang dapat memengaruhi psychological well-being. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami pengalaman subjektif mahasiswa perantau dalam membangun psychological well-being melalui proses resiliensi. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Partisipan dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling, melibatkan tujuh mahasiswa perantau dari luar Pulau Jawa. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam dan dianalisis untuk menggali makna pengalaman hidup partisipan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada fase awal perantauan, partisipan mengalami kerentanan psikologis seperti homesickness, culture shock, perasaan takut, dan tekanan emosional. Seiring waktu, partisipan mengembangkan resiliensi melalui regulasi emosi, refleksi diri, dan dukungan sosial, yang berkontribusi pada pembentukan aspek-aspek psychological well-being. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa resiliensi berperan sebagai proses adaptif dalam pencapaian psychological well-being mahasiswa perantau.

Students who migrate from outside Java Island face various psychological challenges while pursuing higher education in Surabaya, including separation from family, cultural differences, and demands for independence, which may affect their psychological well-being. This study aims to explore the subjective experiences of migrant students in building psychological well-being through the process of resilience. This study employed a qualitative approach using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Participants were selected through purposive sampling and involved seven migrant students from outside Java Island. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed to explore the meanings of participants’ lived experiences. The findings indicate that during the early phase of migration, participants experienced psychological vulnerability characterized by homesickness, culture shock, fear, and emotional distress. Over time, participants developed resilience through emotional regulation, self-reflection, and social support, which contributed to the development of psychological well-being. This study concludes that resilience functions as an adaptive process in achieving psychological well-being among migrant students.
