The Design of an Illustrated Book About Endangerd Animals in Indonesia for Children Aged 7-9 Years
Indonesia adalah negara yang kaya akan keanekaragaman hayati, baik flora maupun fauna. Namun, Indonesia mengalami penurunan keanekaragaman fauna yang tinggi. Penyebabnya adalah tindakan manusia berupa penebangan dan konversi hutan (deforestasi) serta kegiatan perburuan terhadap satwa langka yang menyebabkan satwa langka terancam punah. Hal ini menunjukkan kesadaran masyarakat Indonesia tentang pentingnya melestarikan satwa langka masih sangat kurang. Tujuan perancangan buku ilustrasi ini adalah untuk menjelaskan konsep, proses, dan hasil visualisasi buku ilustrasi satwa langka di Indonesia. Perancangan ini menggunakan metode design thinking berupa empathize, define, ideate, prototype, dan test; dan adanya tahap analisis data 5W+1H (What, Why, Who, Where, When, dan How). Perancangan buku ilustrasi ini menerapkan gaya ilustrasi kartun dari sembilan jenis satwa langka di Indonesia dan memuat informasi tentang habitat, makanan, serta ancaman terhadap masing-masing satwa langka; melalui proses visualisasi, dan finalisasi desain perancangan yang menghasilkan suatu media informasi berupa buku ilustrasi satwa langka di Indonesia untuk anak usia 7-9 tahun, hingga tahap uji coba penerapan yang dilakukan kepada 15 anak berusia 7-9 tahun, dimana hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa sebanyak 93,33% responden (14 anak) menyatakan bahwa mereka suka membaca isi buku ilustrasi satwa langka tersebut, sehinga diharapkan dapat menjadi media edukasi bagi anak usia 7-9 tahun untuk mengetahui dan memahami serta turut membantu pelestarian satwa langka di Indonesia.
Indonesia is a country that is rich in biodiversity, including both flora and fauna. However, Indonesia is experiencing a significant decline in its fauna diversity. The primary causes are human activities such as deforestation and forest conversion, as well as the hunting of endangered animals, which have led to these species being threatened with extinction. This indicates that the awareness of Indonesian society about the importance of preserving endangered animals remains very low. The purpose of designing this illustrated book is to explain the concept, process, and visualization results of an illustration book of endangered animals in Indonesia. This design employs the design thinking approach, which involves empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test; and the data analysis stage using the 5W + 1H (What, Why, Who, Where, When, and How). The concept design of this illustrated book applies a cartoon illustration style of nine types of endangered animals in Indonesia and contains information about the habitat, food, and threats to each animal; through the visualization process and finalization of the design that produces an information media in the form of an illustrated book of endangered animals in Indonesia for children aged 7-9 years, up to the trial implementation stage that was carried out on 15 children aged 7-9 years, where the results showed that as many as 93.33% of respondents (14 children) stated that they liked reading the contents of the illustrated book about endangered animals, so that it is expected to be an educational media for children aged 7-9 years to know and to understand as well as to help the preserve the endangered animals in Indonesia.
