Effect Of Temperature And Inhibitor Concentration Of Guava Leaf Extract On The Corrosion Rate Of SS 304 In A 32% HCl Corrosive Medium 

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi suhu dan konsentrasi inhibitor ekstrak daun jambu biji (Psidium guajava L.) terhadap laju korosi baja tahan karat SS 304 dalam media korosif larutan HCl 32%. Penggunaan inhibitor alami menjadi alternatif ramah lingkungan dalam menghambat laju korosi yang biasanya ditimbulkan oleh larutan asam kuat seperti HCl pada proses pickling. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode eksperimental menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Variabel yang diuji meliputi konsentrasi inhibitor (0%, 0,3%, 0,6%, dan 0,9%) dan suhu perendaman (25°C, 35°C, 45°C, dan 55°C). Laju korosi dianalisis menggunakan metode weight loss. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan konsentrasi inhibitor dapat menurunkan laju korosi, dengan efisiensi tertinggi tercapai pada konsentrasi 0,9% pada suhu 25°C sebesar 45,7%. Sebaliknya, peningkatan suhu cenderung meningkatkan laju korosi. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa ekstrak daun jambu biji efektif sebagai inhibitor alami dalam mengurangi laju korosi SS 304, terutama pada konsentrasi tinggi dan suhu rendah. This study aims to investigate the effect of temperature variation and inhibitor concentration from guava leaf extract (Psidium guajava L.) on the corrosion rate of stainless steel SS 304 in a 32% hydrochloric acid (HCl) corrosive medium. The use of natural inhibitors offers an environmentally friendly alternative to inhibit corrosion typically caused by strong acids like HCl in pickling processes. The research employed an experimental method with a quantitative approach. The variables tested include inhibitor concentrations of 0%, 0.3%, 0.6%, and 0.9%, and immersion temperatures of 25°C, 35°C, 45°C, and 55°C. Corrosion rate was analyzed using the weight loss method. Results showed that increasing inhibitor concentration effectively reduced the corrosion rate, with the highest inhibition efficiency of 45.7% achieved at 0.9% concentration and 25°C. In contrast, higher temperatures tended to accelerate the corrosion rate. It is concluded that guava leaf extract is an effective natural corrosion inhibitor, especially at higher concentrations and lower temperatures.
