This study aims to describe and analyze
1) the empowerment of communities through training in crafts (handcrafts) in
increasing independence in Kriya Daun 9996 workshop with export scale in Ngagel
Mulyo Surabaya, 2) supporting factors of community empowerment through training
in crafts (handcrafts) in enhancing self-reliance in Kriya Daun 9996 workshop
with export scale in Ngagel Mulyo Surabaya, 3) the inhibiting factors of
community empowerment through training in crafts (handcrafts) in improving
independence in Kriya Daun 9996 workshop with export scale in Ngagel Mulyo
Surabaya.
The research approach used is
descriptive qualitative. Data subjects came from study residents, workers,
managers and owners of BKD 9996. Data collection techniques used the method of
observation participants, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis
used is data condensation, data display and data verification. While in testing
the validity of the data using credibility, transferability, dependability and
confirmation.
The
results in this study indicate that the implementation of community empowerment
through handicrafts in increasing independence has helped the community
involved to have awareness, knowledge, and attitude to produce dried leaf
products by having the desire to learn, be responsible for every activity, be
able to take decisions and initiatives facing problems; supporting
factors, namely raw materials which are easy to get and affordable, the easiness
of manufacturing process, the product has uniqueness which in the leaf layer on
the outer surface with a competitive quality product, has a lot of variance and
product innovation since the product can adjust the desires of consumers and the
brand has been patented, creating jobs; inhibiting factors, namely the
competence of human resources. The human resources is saturated to his work,
the condition of the raw materials and production machinery, the constraints of
production machines are not using the mower, and still using simple tools such
as cutter and scissors, external constraints: (marketing) competition by
competitors, market competition with competitors very tight both on pricing and
product design.
