Teaching materials are everything used by teaching staff in carrying out teaching and learning activities. In the Teacher and Lecturer Law Number 14 of 2005 Article 8, an educator is required to be able to develop a learning curriculum, carry out educational and learning activities, develop learning materials and utilize information and communication technology in terms of learning (Magdalena, et al., 2020).
Contextual learning is a learning approach that focuses on the relationship between learning material and real situations or contexts in the environment around students (Yuberti, 2014). The decline in student interest in studying the Lithosphere is due to students having difficulty understanding and identifying different types of rocks. The teaching material innovation that can be carried out by teachers in providing Geography lessons regarding the Lithosphere is to use rock type comparator board media.
The objectives of the research are 1) to determine the effect of using the rock type classification comparator board media given using the contextual learning method on the learning outcomes of class X SMA Negeri 22 Surabaya, 2) to evaluate the learning outcomes of class media-based comparator board rock type classification.
The research method used is quasi experiment. In a quasi experiment, a control group and an experimental group will be determined to test the pre-test and post-test. The accuracy of the research design will be based on the concept of Matching Pre-test-Post-test Comparison Group Design. The sample obtained was 70 students who were carried out randomly (random sampling). The analysis used uses the Mann Whitney test and is clarified using the Spearman Rank Correlation advanced statistical test.
The research results showed that the contextual learning model that had been carried out provided differences in the pre-test and post-test results in the experimental class. Student learning outcomes in the affective aspect are considered positive as shown by the results of the Spearman Rank Correlation Test with a correlation value of 0.611. This is because there is an increase in the value of the two variables tested.
