Penelitian ini berangkat dari adanya kegiatan santunan anak yatim di Desa Genukwatu yang dilaksanakan setiap bulan. Santunan tersebut diberikan oleh seluruh masyarakat Desa Genukwatu secara kolektif. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui motif masyarakat Desa Genukwatu dalam memberikan santunan kepada anak yatim. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian kualitatif dengan perspektif teori motif dari Alfred Schutz. Lokasi penelitian ini berada di Desa Genukwatu Kec. Ngoro Kab. Jombang. Subjek penelitian adalah masyarakat Desa Genukwatu. Hasil dari penelitian ini terdapat because of motif dan in order to motif masyarakat dalam memberikan santunan. Adapun because of motif yakni memiliki saudara seorang yatim, kondisi keluarga bermasalah, sebagai bentuk kepedulian sesama. Sedangkan in order to motif  yakni ingin mendapat pahala, ingin mendapat berkah, dan menolak balak.

This study departs from the event benefit the orphans in the Village Genukwatu held every month. Compensation was given by the entire Village community Genukwatu collectively.
