ASSESSMENT OF THE QUALITY OF PEDESTRIAN FACILIES AT UNESA KETINTANG CAMPUS
The high rate of use of motorized vehicles in urban areas due to urbanization has resulted in worsening levels of congestion. Due to limited urban land, the government needs to pay more attention to pedestrians. One effort that can be done is to improve existing pedestrian facilities so as to arouse people's interest in switching modes by foot. Good facilities need to be supported by a development guide as well as an assessment guide. One of these guidelines is the availability of the Walkability concept. Walkability is an indicator of the feasibility of an area for pedestrians, with the hope of increasing community walking activities in the area. The college area is one of the areas with a high level of pedestrians. With a high level of pedestrians, a high level of walkability is required. UNESA is one of the universities that has a large number of students, namely 35350 students (Data Base of Higher Education, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, 2018).
This assessing of the quality of pedestrian facilities is using walkability method, by calculating indeks walkability of each segmen of sidewalk in UNESA Ketintang. The data collection instrument used questionnaires to 392 students of UNESA Ketintang. The results of this study state that the best segment is segment 1, namely the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law (FISH) with a walkability index value of 81.25% and is included in category B and the average value of the other segments is C or sufficient, this is because there are many inadequate facilities such as many roads with holes.
