Praktik Aparatur Negara Ideologis dan Represif

dalam Novel Animal Farm Karya George Orwell

Abstrak

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan fungsi aparatur negara sebagai praktik ideologis dalam novel Animal Farm Karya George Orwell, yang mana novel tersebut juga merupakan representasi dari fakta historis Revolusi Uni Soviet di era Stalin. Oleh karena itu, rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah mengenai: (1) bagaimana praktik ideologis yang dilakukan tokoh Napoleon dan Snowball terhadap tatanan sosial masyarakat hewan di peternakan digambarkan dalam novel Animal Farm karya George Orwell dan (2) bagaiaman dampak dari praktik ideologis yang dilakukan tokoh Napoleon dan Snowball terhadap tatanan sosial masyarakat hewan di peternakan yang digambarkan dalam novel Animal Farm karya George Orwell.

Adapun teori yang digunakan untuk menunjang permasalahan tersebut adalah teori mengenai praktik ideologis melalui aparatur negara Louis Althusser. Jenis metode penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dan dengan pendekatan mimetik. Teknik pengumpulan datanya berupa dokumentasi atau pencatatan yang memuat langkah-langkah inti; (1) pembacaan, (2) pengutipan atau pengumpulan data, dan (3) klasifikasi data. Di sisi lain, teknik analisisnya adalah interpretatif deskripsi yang memuat langkah-langkah inti; (1) penyusuanan masalah, (2) pengutipan, (3) analisis, dan (4) penyimpulan.   

Dari pemaparan tersebut, maka ditemukan bahwa ideologi, terlepas apapun nama ideologi tersebut, selalu memuat kekuasaan dan untuk menegaskannya, ideologi selalu dipraktikkan dalam dua bentuk aparatur; ideologi dan represif. Novel Animal Farm karya George Orwell menggambarkan hal tersebut melalui cerita Napoleon dan Snowball yang pada mulanya memperjuangkan kelas dari kekuasaan Pak Jones, namun justru pada akhirnya menjelaskan bagaimana mereka juga ingin berkuasa, terutama Napoleon, melalui aparatur negara ciptaannya sebagai proses penegasan kekuasaannya. Dari refleksinya, itu juga yang terjadi pada masa revolusi Uni Soviet di bawah kepemimpinan Stalin yang merebut kekuasaan kekaisaran Tsar II sehingga novel ini merupakan novel analogis dari fakta historis tersebut beserta cara kerja ideologi.

The Ideological and Repressive State Apparatus

in George Orwell’s Animal Farm

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the functioning of the state apparatuses as ideological practices in George Orwell’s Animal Farm, which is also a representation of the historical fact of the Soviet Revolution in Stalin’s era. Therefore, the problems in this research are about; (1) how the ideological practices of the Napoleon and Snowball figures on the social order of animal societies in farms which are described in George Orwell’s Animal Farm and (2) how are the impacts of the ideological practices of Napoleon and Snowball on the social order of animal societies in farms which are depicted in George Orwell’s Animal Farm.

The used theory to support the problems is Louis Althusser’s ideological practice through the state apparatus. This type of research method is qualitative and the approach is mimetic. The technique of data collection is documentation that contains the core steps; (1) reading, (2) citing or collecting data, and (3) data classification. On the other hand, the technique of data analysis is an interpretive description that contains the core steps; (1) problem-solving, (2) quotation, (3) analysis, and (4) inference.

From the exposition, it is found that ideology, regardless of the name of the ideology, always contains power and to affirm it, ideology is always practiced in two forms of apparatus; Ideological and Repressive. George Orwell’s Animal Farm illustrates this through the story of Napoleon and Snowball who originally bring class struggle against Mr. Jones’s power, but it ultimately explains how they also want to rule, especially Napoleon, through the state apparatus of his creation as a process of affirmation of his power. From the reflection, it is also what happened during the Soviet Union Revolution under the leadership of Stalin who seized the power from the Tsar II empire, so that this novel is an analogical novel of the historical facts which shows how ideology works in practices.
