Rationality Of Final Year Students Playing Online Games
Fenomena mahasiswa tingkat akhir yang bermain game online banyak ditemui di Indonesia. Berdasarkan penelitian sebelumnya, aktivitas bermain game online lebih sering dianggap memberikan dampak negatif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami rasionalitas mahasiswa tingkat akhir dalam bermain game online di Kalurahan Condongcatur. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan wawancara mendalam terhadap lima mahasiswa tingkat akhir yang bermain game online. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan teori tindakan sosial Max Weber. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tindakan rasional instrumental, rasionalitas nilai, dan tindakan afektif menjadi dominan dalam aktivitas bermain game online, sementara tindakan tradisional tidak ditemukan. Kesimpulannya, mahasiswa tingkat akhir di Kalurahan Condongcatur bermain game online dengan pertimbangan pragmatis, keyakinan terhadap nilai tertentu, atau untuk memenuhi kebutuhan emosional.
The phenomenon of final-year university students engaging in online gaming is prevalent in Indonesia. Previous studies often emphasize the negative impacts of this activity. This research aims to explore the rationality behind online gaming among final-year students in Condongcatur Village. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, in-depth interviews were conducted with five students actively involved in online gaming. The collected data were analyzed through Max Weber's theory of social action. The findings indicate that instrumental rationality, value-oriented rationality, and affective actions dominate the reasons for online gaming, while traditional actions are absent. In conclusion, final-year students in Condongcatur Village engage in online gaming due to pragmatic considerations, adherence to specific values, or to fulfill emotional needs. This study provides new insights into the multifaceted motivations behind online gaming among students, challenging the general perception of its negative effects.
