STUDI KASUS LAYANAN BIMBINGAN DAN KONSELING UNTUK MENANGANI KECEMASAN MATEMATIKA SISWA SMP
CASE STUDY OF GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING SERVICES TO HANDLE MATH AXIETY STUDENTS JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL
Salah satu penyebab rendahnya kemampuan matematis pelajar Indonesia yakni kecemasan matematika. Kecemasan matematika adalah perasaan khawatir, tegang dan takut ketika berhadapan dengan matematika. Materi matematika yang abstrak dan berhubungan dengan angka menjadi momok yang menakutkan bagi siswa sehingga hasil belajar tidak sesuai keinginan. Bimbingan dan Konseling membantu siswa mengatasi hambatan dan kesulitan agar siswa mencapai perkembangan optimal pada bidang akademik, pribadi, sosial dan karir. Studi kasus pada penelitian ini merupakan bentuk asesmen konselor sebagai langkah awal pemberian layanan bimbingan dan konseling pada bidang akademik kasus kecemasan matematika. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui (1) penyebab siswa mengalami kecemasan matematika (2) ciri kecemasan matematika siswa dilihat dari aspek kognitif, perilaku dan reaksi fisik (3) penanganan kecemasan matematika oleh guru bimbingan dan konseling di SMP lokasi penelitian. Metode penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus untuk mengetahui secara mendalam dan terperinci mengenai suatu permasalahan kecemasan matematika siswa. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan teknik observasi, wawancara dan studi dokumentasi. Uji validitas data menggunakan teknik triangulasi sumber dan metode. Teknik analisis data meliputi reduksi data, pemaparan data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penyebab kecemasan matematika siswa, diantaranya kurangnya kemampuan dalam penguasaan materi matematika sehingga terkendala dengan rumus dan penyelesaian soal, adanya ketakutan jika diejek teman, nilai jelek, tidak naik kelas, dimarahi orang tua (ibu), situasi pembelajaran di kelas yang kurang kondusif gaduh, cemas ketika tiba-tiba ditunjuk mengerjakan soal di depan kelas, cemas karena lupa cara pengerjaan. Ciri kecemasan matematika siswa pada aspek kognitif, perilaku dan reaksi fisik. Ciri kognitif diantaranya kesulitan berkonsentrasi dan memusatkan perhatian, memiliki keyakinan bahwa hal buruk akan segera terjadi, berpikir semua sudah sudah tidak bisa dikontrol, pikiran bercampur aduk (pikiran irrasional). Ciri perilaku diantaranya perilaku terguncang gelisah, tegang, was-was dan tergesa-gesa. Serta reaksi fisik diantaranya keringat dingin, jantung berdetak lebih cepat, pening, gemetar. Layanan bimbingan dan konseling yang telah dilakukan meliputi bimbingan klasikal, konseling individu, kolaborasi dengan orang tua dan guru mata pelajaran. Serta kegiatan administrasi bimbingan dan konseling.
One of the causes of the low mathematical abilities of Indonesian students is math anxiety. Maths anxiety is a feeling of worry, tension and fear when faced with math. Mathematical material that is abstract and related to numbers is a frightening specter for students so that learning outcomes are not as desired. Guidance and Counseling helps students overcome obstacles and difficulties so that students achieve optimal development in the academic, personal, social and career fields. The case study in this study is a form of counselor assessment as the first step in providing guidance and counseling services in the academic field of math anxiety cases. The purpose of this study was to find out (1) the causes of students experiencing math anxiety (2) the characteristics of students' math anxiety seen from cognitive aspects, behavior and physical reactions (3) the handling of math anxiety by guidance and counseling teachers in junior high school research location. This research method is a qualitative approach with a case study method to find out in depth and detail about a student's math anxiety problem. Data was collected using observation techniques, interviews and documentation studies. Test the validity of the data using source and method triangulation techniques. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the causes of students' math anxiety included a lack of ability in mastering math material so that they were constrained by formulas and problem solving, fear of being ridiculed by friends, bad grades, not going to class, being scolded by parents (mother), poor learning situation in class noisy, anxious when suddenly assigned to do a problem in front of the class, worried because they forgot how to do it. Characteristics of students' math anxiety on cognitive, behavioral and physical reactions aspects. Cognitive characteristics include difficulty concentrating and focusing attention, having the belief that bad things will happen soon, thinking that everything is out of control, thoughts are mixed up (irrational thoughts). Behavioral characteristics include agitated, tense, anxious and hasty behavior. As well as physical reactions including cold sweat, faster heart beat, dizziness, trembling. Guidance and counseling services that have been carried out include classical guidance, individual counseling, collaboration with parents and subject teachers. As well as administrative guidance and counseling activities.
