Inferioritas merupakan keadaan di mana seseorang merasa dirinya lebih rendah dibandingkan orang lain sehingga mereka tidak berdaya dan tidak memiliki minat sosial yang rendah sebagai wujud konsep diri mereka yang rendah. Seseorang yang memiliki inferioritas tinggi seringkali melakukan percobaan bunuh diri. Penulis meneliti kepribadian pada tokoh-tokoh yang mengalami inferioritas dalam novel Pulung Gantung Tali Pati karya Iman Budhi Santosa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah (1) menjelaskan wujud inferiroritas tokoh, (2) menjelaskan penyebab inferioritas tokoh, dan (3) Menjelaskan penyelesaian masalah yang dialami tokoh inferior. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan bentuk pendekatan psikologi sastra yang bertujuan memahami makna yang berpusat pada psikologis tokoh. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah novel Pulung Gantung Tali Pati dengan data berupa dialog antar tokoh, klausa, kalimat, serta tingkah laku para tokoh yang memiliki konsep diri berupa rendah diri. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan wujud inferioritas yaitu isolasi sosial, rasa murung, dan  overreaction. Selanjutnya, penyebab inferioritas yang ditemukan yaitu menjadi single parent, keterbelakangan mental, dan  keadaan yang tidak diharapkan. Kemudian, cara para tokoh menyelesaikan rasa rendah dirinya yaitu dengan melakukan bunuh diri dan memiliki rasa superior .

Inferiority is condition when a person feels that they feel inferior to others so that they are hopeless and do not have social interest as a form of their low self-concept. Someone who has high inferiority often commits suicide attempts. The author examines the personalities of characters who experience inferiority in the novel Pulung Gantung Tali Pati by Iman Budhi Santosa. The objectives of this study are (1) to explain the inferiority of characters, (2) to explain the causes of inferiority of characters, and (3) to explain the problem solving experienced by inferior figures. This research use a qualitative research using qualitative descriptive method with a form of literary psychology approach which aims to understand the meaning that is centered on the psychological character. The data source of this research is the novel Pulung Gantung Tali Pati with data in the form of dialogue between characters, clauses, sentences, and the behavior of characters who have self-concept in the form of inferiority complex. The results showed a form of inferiority, namely social isolation, gloom, and overreaction. Furthermore, the causes of inferiority that were found were being a single parent, mental retardation, and unexpected circumstances. Into this study, there are two ways way to compensate for the feeling of inferiority, namely by committing suicide and a sense of superior.
