PERSPECTIVE OF PSYCHOANALYSIS BY ERICH FROMM

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dilema eksistensi, kebutuhan kebebasan dan keterikatan, kebutuhan untuk memahami dan beraktivitas, serta mekanisme pelarian tokoh utama dalam novel Mata dan Rahasia Pulau Gapi. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah psikoanalisis Erich Fromm. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan psikologi sastra. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah novel Mata dan Rahasia Pulau Gapi karya Okky Madasari. Data penelitian ini disajikan dalam bentuk satuan teks yang merepresentasikan kepribadian atas tindakan yang dilakukan oleh tokoh utama dalam perspektif psikoanalisis Erich Fromm. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik baca dan catat dengan teknik analisis objektif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya (1) Dilema eksistensi melingkupi manusia sebagai binatang dan manusia sebagai manusia, hidup dan mati, ketidaksempurnaan dan kesempurnaan, kesendirian dan kebersamaan; (2) Kebutuhan kebebasan dan keterikatan melingkupi kebutuhan keterhubungan, keberakaran, menjadi pencipta, kesatuan, identitas; (3) Kebutuhan untuk memahami dan beraktivitas melingkupi kebutuhan kerangka orientasi, kerangka kesetiaan, keterangsangan—stimulasi, keefektifan; serta (4) Mekanisme pelarian diri melingkupi otoritarianisme, perusakan, dan penyesuaian yang terjadi pada tokoh Matara sebagai tokoh utama di dalam novel Mata dan Rahasia Pulau Gapi.

This purpose of this research is to describe the dilemma of existence, the need for freedom and attachment, the need for understanding and activity, and the escape mechanism of the main character in the novel Mata dan Rahasia Pulau Gapi. The theory used in this research is Erich Fromm’s psychoanalysis. The method in this research is a qualitative descriptive method with a literary psychology approach. The source in this research is the novel Mata dan Rahasia Pulau Gapi by Okky Madasari. The data of this research are presented in the form of text units that represent the personality of the actions taken by the main character in the perspective of Erich Fromm’s psychoanalysis. The data collection technique used in this research was a reading and note-taking technique with an objective analysis technique. The results of this research indicate that (1) The dilemma of existence including humans as animals and humans as humans, life and death, imperfection and perfection, loneliness and togetherness; (2) The need for freedom and attachment includes the need for relatedness, rootedness, transcendency, unity, identity; (3) The need for understanding and activity includes the need for frame of orientation, frame of devotion, excitation—stimulation, effectivity; and (4) Mechanisms to escape from freedom in the form of authoritarianism, destructiveness, and conformity of the character Matara as the main character in the novel Mata dan Rahasia Pulau Gapi.
