Pengembangan Bentuk dan Ragam Hias Gerabah di Desa Kemuning, Kecamatan Jenggawah, Kabupaten Jember
Gerabah di Desa Kemuning memiliki potensi yang dapat dikembangkan lagi baik dari segi keterampilan perajin, ketersediaan bahan baku, produk-produk yang dihasilkan, dan pangsa pasar yang telah dijangkau. Namun produk-produk gerabah tersebut masih sangat monoton, belum bervariasi, dan belum mempunyai karaktersitik (ciri khas) yang ditonjolkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: 1) Menjelaskan ide pengembangan bentuk dan ragam hias gerabah di Desa Kemuning; 2) Mendeskripsikan proses perwujudan produk pengembangan gerabah; 3) Mengetahui kualitas produk pengembangan gerabah. Penelitian ini mengunakan metode penelitian R&D (Research and Development). Tahapan-tahapan yang dilalui yaitu menggali potensi dan masalah, pengumpulan data, pembuatan desain produk, validasi desain, pembuatan produk, hingga produk jadi. Hasil penelitian adalah 1) Konsep ide pengembangan bentuk dan ragam hias terinspirasi dari tumbuhan tembakau kasutri (tumbuhan khas Jember); Berdasarkan konsep tersebut dihaslikan 10 variasi desain produk; 2) Proses perwujudan produk dilakukan dengan tahapan: menyiapkan bahan dan alat, pembuatan gerabah (teknik pinch, coil, slab, dan putar), pengeringan, pembakaran (suhu 6000C-8500C), pendinginan, finishing, hingga produk jadi. Peneliti hanya mewujudkan 5 produk gerabah dari 10 desain yang dibuat. Kelima produk tersebut yaitu vas gantung, teko, tempat lilin, celengan, cobek/layah; 3) Validator ahli desain memberikan nilai 96,8 dan ahli gerabah memberikan nilai 95,2. Berdasarkan penilaian tersebut kualitas produk pengembangan gerabah dikategorikan “sangat baik”.

Pottary in Kemuning Village has very adequate potential both in terms of craftsmen skills, availability of raw materials, products produced, and market share that has been reached. But the pottery products are still very monotonous, have not varied, and have not had the characteristic highlighted. This research aims to: 1) Explain the idea of developing the shape and ornaments of pottery in Kemuning Village; 2) Describe the process of making pottery products that developed; 3) Knowing the quality of pottery products that developed. This research uses R&D methods (Research and Development). The stages that are past are explore potentials and problems, data collection, product design creation, design validation, making of products, up to the finished product. The results of this research are: 1) The idea of developing the shape and ornaments of pottary inspired by tobacco kasutri plants (typical plants Jember). From the concept, researchers produced 10 variations of product design; 2) The process of making products is done by stages: preparing materials and tools, pottery making (techniques pinch, coil, slab, rotate, carve and paste), drying, firing (Temperature 6000C-8500C), cooling, finishing, up to the finished product. Out of 10 designs researchers onlymade 5 pottery products namely hanging vases, teapots, chandeliers, celengan, cobek/layah. 3) Design expert validator gives a rating of 96.8 and pottery experts rated it 97.2. From the assessment, the quality of pottery development products is categorized as "excellent".
