An Examination of Social Capital Among Members of the Regional Student Organization (ORMADA) A Case Study of the Forum Mahasiswa Tuban Ronggolawe (FORMAT R)

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bentuk dan perkembangan modal sosial

yang terbentuk setelah mahasiswa menjadi anggota Organisasi Mahasiswa Daerah

(ORMADA) Forum Mahasiswa Tuban Ronggolawe (FORMAT R) di Universitas Negeri

Surabaya. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan teori modal sosial Pierre

Bourdieu untuk mengidentifikasi dimensi modal ekonomi, sosial, budaya, dan simbolik yang

diperoleh mahasiswa melalui aktivitas organisasi. FORMAT R menjadi ruang kolektif yang

memungkinkan terbentuknya jaringan sosial, rasa solidaritas, serta penguatan identitas

kedaerahan bagi mahasiswa perantau asal Tuban. Melalui keanggotaan di FORMAT R,

mahasiswa memperoleh dukungan sosial, akses terhadap informasi akademik, peningkatan

softskill dan hardskill, serta peluang keterlibatan dalam kegiatan sosial maupun kemitraan

strategis dengan pemerintah daerah. Keikutsertaan aktif dalam organisasi ini juga memperluas

relasi strategis dan memperkuat posisi sosial mahasiswa baik di lingkungan kampus maupun

masyarakat luas. Dengan demikian, FORMAT R tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai tempat

berhimpun, tetapi juga sebagai arena pembentukan modal sosial yang berdampak jangka

panjang bagi kehidupan akademik dan profesional anggotanya.

This study aims to analyze the forms and development of social capital acquired by

students after joining the Regional Student Organization (ORMADA) Forum Mahasiswa

Tuban Ronggolawe (FORMAT R) at State University of Surabaya. using a qualitative

approach and Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of social capital, the research identifies the

dimensions of economic, social, cultural, and symbolic capital obtained through

organizational engagement. FORMAT R serves as a collective space that fosters social

networks, solidarity, and the strengthening of regional identity among migrant students from

Tuban. Through active participation, students gain social support, access to academic

information, enhanced soft and hard skills, as well as opportunities to engage in social

initiatives and strategic collaborations with local governments. Participation in FORMAT R

expands students’ strategic relationships and strengthens their social position both within the

university and the broader community. Thus, FORMAT R functions not only as a gathering

space, but also as a platform for the production of long-term social capital that supports

students academic and professional.
