Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model Project Based Learning terhadap keaktifan belajar dan keterampilan menulis News Item Text pada mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris bagi siswa kelas XI MAN 1 Lombok Tengah. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode kuasi eksperimen dengan bentuk Nonequivalent (Pretest and Posttest) Control Group Design. Masing-masing dari kelompok kontrol dan eksperimen terdiri dari 30 orang peserta didik. Kelompok kontrol dibelajarkan mengkan model kooperatif, sedangkan kelompok eksperimen dibelajarkan menggunakan model Project Based Learning. Data dikumpulkan melalui metode observasi menggunakan instrumen angket, sedangkan uji produk menggunakan instrumen rubrik penilaian produk. Data hasil validasi instrumen diuji validitas dan reliabilitasnya. Data hipotesis dianalisis menggunakan uji independent sample t test yang terlebih dahulu diberikan pengujian prasyarat, yaitu uji normalitas dan homogenitas.
Hasil uji independent sample t test menunjukkan tidak ada perbedaan kemampuan awal antara kelompok eksperimen dengan kelompok kontrol. Sejalan dengan tujuan penelitian, hasil penelitian, melalui uji independent sample t test menunjukkan bahwa (1) model pembelajaran Project Based Learning memiliki pengaruh terhadap keaktifan belajar dan (2) model Project Based Learning juga memiliki pengaruh terhadap keterampilan menulis News Item Text pada mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris dibanding dengan model pembelajaran kooperatif. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran Project Based Learning memiliki pengaruh terhadap keaktifan belajar maupun keterampilan menulis News Item Text pada mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris bagi siswa kelas XI MAN 1 Lombok Tengah.

The research aims to figure out the effect of the Project Based Learning model on learning activity and News Item Text writing skills in English subject for grade XI students of MAN 1 Central Lombok. The research used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method with a form of Nonequivalent (Pretest and Posttest) Control Group Design. Each of the control and experimental groups consisted of 30 learners. The control group was taught using a cooperative model, while the experimental one was taught using a Project Based Learning model. Data was collected through observation method using questionnaires, while product test conducted using product assessment rubric. The data from the instrument validation are firstly tested for validity and reliability. Hypothesis data were analyzed using an independent sample t test which was first given prerequisite testing, namely normality and homogeneity tests.
The results of the independent sample t test showed that no difference found in first ability between the experimental and control groups. In line with the research objectives, the results of research conducted through the independent sample t test showed that (1) the Project Based Learning model has an influence on learning activity and (2) the Project Based Learning model has an influence on News Item Text writing skills in English subject compared to the cooperative learning model. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Project Based Learning model has an influence on both learning activity and News Item Text writing skills in English subject for grade XI students of MAN 1 Central Lombok.
