ABSTRACT
Laili, Ayil Qoimatul. 2025. The Influence of
Discovery Kit Trainer with a Problem-Based Learning Model on Systems and
Critical Thinking Skills in the Electrical Lighting Installation Practicum at
SMKN 1 Glagah Banyuwangi. Thesis, Master’s Program in Educational Technology,
Faculty of Education, Universitas Negeri Surabaya. Advisors: (I) Dr. Fajar
Arianto, M.Pd.; (II) Dr. Khusnul Khotimah, M.Pd.
Keywords:
Discovery Kit Trainer, Problem-Based Learning, Systematic Thinking
Ability, Critical Thinking Ability.
This study aims to determine: (1) the effect of the Discovery
Kit Trainer using the Problem-Based Learning model on students’ systems
thinking skills; and (2) students’ critical thinking skills in the Electrical
Lighting Installation practicum at SMKN 1 Glagah Banyuwangi.
The study employed a quantitative method with a
quasi-experimental design, specifically a Nonrandomized Control Group,
Pretest–Posttest Design. Data were collected using questionnaires, tests, and
assessment rubrics. The sample consisted of students from class X TKTL 1
(control group) and X TKTL 2 (experimental group) at SMKN 1 Glagah Banyuwangi.
Data were obtained through tests measuring systems thinking and critical
thinking skills in the Electrical Lighting Installation practicum and analyzed
using the independent sample t-test.
The results of the study show that: (1) the Discovery
Kit Trainer using the Problem-Based Learning model has a significant effect on
systems thinking skills, with an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000; and (2)
it also significantly affects critical thinking skills, with an Asymp. Sig.
(2-tailed) value of 0.000. Therefore, it can be concluded that: (1) the
Discovery Kit Trainer using the Problem-Based Learning model has a significant
influence on systems thinking skills; and (2) on students' critical thinking
skills in the Electrical Lighting Installation practicum.
This study recommends the
Discovery Kit Trainer with the Problem-Based Learning model as an effective
instructional approach for enhancing students’ systems and critical thinking
skills, particularly in practicum-based learning activities such as Electrical
Lighting Installation.
