Penelitian ini menganalisa tentang penggambaran kelas sosial di novel George Orwell 1984. Winston smith adalah seorang anggota partai yang bekerja untuk Big brother namun ingin memberontak secara diam-diam. Winston tidak sendirian, dia bertemu dengan Julia yang memiliki keinginan yang sama seperti Winston. Diskusi akan berfokus pada bagaimana penggambaran kelas sosial dan bagaiman kelas sosial tersebut memicu Winston smith sebagai tokoh utama di dalam novel untuk memberontak. Artikel ini menggunakan teori kelas sosial oleh Antonio Gramsci dan konsep pemberontakan. Merujuk pada masalah ini, tesis ini menyimpulkan dua kesimpulan. Kesimpulan pertama adalah, dalam novel 1984 karya George Orwell, Kelas sosial dibagi menjadi tiga kelas: Inner Party, Outer Party, dan Proletariat. Kesimpulan kedua adalah bagaimana kelas sosial memicu Winston Smith untuk memberontak. Pemicu tersebut adalah program "Two Minutes Hate", ketakutan dan kebencian pada Big Brother, dan juga harapan untuk memberontak bersama dengan pasangannya, yaitu Julia.

This study analyzes the depiction of social class in George Orwell's 1984 novel. Winston Smith is a party member who works for Big Brother but wants to rebel secretly. Winston is not alone; he meets Julia who has the same desire as Winston. The discussion will focus on how the depiction of social class and how the social class triggers Winston Smith as the main character in the novel to rebel. This article uses the supporting theory of Social Class by Antonio Gramsci and a concept of rebellion. Referring to the problem, this thesis provides two conclusions. The first conclusion is in George Orwell's 1984, social class is depicted as three classes: Inner Party, Outer Party, and Proletariat. The second conclusion is how the social class triggers Winston Smith to rebel. It is by "Two Minutes Hate" program, the fear and hatred towards Big Brother, and a hope to rebel with his partner, Julia.
