Kebijakan Dividen di Indonesia: Studi pada Perusahaan Manufaktur
Dividend Policy in Indonesia: Evidence from Manufacturing Companies

This research attempts to identify the factors affect dividend policy. The independent variables of this research are corporate governance, investment opportunities, collateralizable assets, and company life cycle. Also previous year’s dividend and profitability as control variables. The population of this research is manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during 2018-2022. The sample was selected using purposive sampling technique and 62 sample companies that met the criterias were obtained. Furthermore, the data was analyzed using logistic regression analysis technique. This research finds that corporate governance, proxied by audit quality, does not have an effect on dividend policy, this is because dividend policy is generally affected by internal factors, while audits are external factors for the company. Board independence doesn’t affect dividend policy, as the appointment of independent commissioners is not done to implement good corporate governance but merely to comply the regulations. Furthermore, investment opportunities has no effect on dividend policy, as the proxy used is the market price ratio, where stock prices may sometimes be irrational and not reflect the company's fundamental conditions. Collateralizable assets doesn’t affect dividend policy because creditors consider not only the level of collateralizable assets when granting loans, thus not restricting the company from distributing dividends. The company life cycle variable has a positive and significant effect on dividend policy, with companies in the maturity stage having a greater probability to pay dividends. The control variable of the previous year's dividend has a positive and significant effect on dividend policy because dividend policy is consistent or sticky, and companies tend to continue the policies from the previous year. The profitability control variable also affects dividend policy because dividends distributed to shareholders come from the profit generated by the company.
