This study aims to identify and compare the levels of body image disturbance and eating disorder among female athletes and non-athlete women who are members of a fitness club. This quantitative descriptive research involved 100 respondents (50 athletes and 50 non-athletes) aged 18–25 years. The instruments used were the Body Image Concern Inventory (BICI) and the SCOFF questionnaire. Data were analyzed using normality and homogeneity tests, independent samples t-test, and the Mann-Whitney U test. Results showed that 34% of athletes experienced severe body image disturbance, compared to only 2% of non-athletes. Additionally, 54% of athletes showed symptoms of eating disorders, higher than 14% of non-athletes. Significant differences were found between both groups in both variables (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that participation in intense physical activity does not guarantee a positive body image or healthy eating behaviors.
