Representasi merupakan upaya untuk menghadirkan realitas sosial menjadi lebih dekat. Film Newton merupakan film kritik yang memberikan kritikan terhadap konsep demokrasi di India. Film Newton merepresentasikan realitas tersebut dengan mengkonstruksi ulang kode-kode, konvensi-konvensi dan ideologi budaya kedalam sebuah film. Hasil yang diperoleh adalah demokrasi di India tidak sesuai dengan nilai dasar konsep demokrasi, sehingga mengakibatkan kesenjangan sosial dan tingginya angka kejahatan. Metode yang digunakan dalam menganalisis kode-kode dalam film Newton adalah kualitatif, denan menggunakan teori semiotika milik Roland Barthes. Dengan pemaknaan dua tahap (denotasi, konotasi, mitos). Semiotika Roland Barthes dipilih karena Roland Barthes memberikan kedalaman ketika memaknai sebuah film, dengan berdasarkan penanda, pertanda, gambar atau visual, dan fenomena sosial.

Representation is an attempt to bring social reality closer. Newton is a movie of criticism which provides criticism of the democracy concept in India. It represents the reality of the concept by reconstructing codes, conventions and cultural ideologies into a film. The results obtained are that democracy in India is not in accordance with the basic values of the basic concept of democracy, resulting in social inequality and high crime rates. The method used in analyzing the codes in Newton movie is qualitative research method, using Roland Barthes's semiotic theory with the definition of two stages (denotation, connotation, myth). Roland Barthes's semiotics is chosen because he gives depth in interpreting a movie, based on markers, signs, images or visuals, and social phenomena.
