Identitas diri merupakan ciri khas yang dimiliki individu guna untuk membedakan dirinya dengan orang lain. Identitas diri terbentuk dari tahap kebimbangan identitas (identity versus identity convusion), pada tahap itu disebut sebagai tahapan krisis identitas yang dialami individu. Hasil dari proses menemukan jati diri tersebut selanjutnya akan menghasilkan identitas diri. Sehubungan dengan gambaran cerita yang ada pada novel AWK karya Tulus Setiyadi yang berisi proses penemuan identitas diri tokoh Sumirah.

Identitas diri merupakan bagian dari diri individu, karena jika individu tersebut tidak mempunyai identitas maka dia akan mengalami kebingungan identitas dalam hidupnya. Maka dari itu, identitas diri dijadikan sebagai pokok bahasan pada penelitian ini. Berdasarkan penjelasan tersebut, maka bisa diambil rumusan masalah penelitian sebagai berikut, (1) Bagaimana tahapan proses penemuan identitas diri, (2) Bagaimana wujud identitas diri, dan (3) Faktor apa saja yang memengaruhi terbentuknya identitas diri tokoh Sumirah pada novel AWK. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk menjelaskan proses terbentuknya identitas diri dalam tahapan identity versus identity convusion, wujud identitas diri, dan faktor yang mempengaruhi adanya identitas diri tersebut.

Penelitian ini tergolong penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan teori psikologi sastra Erik H Erikson. Data dalam penelitian ini diperoleh dari kata dan kalimat yang terdapat pada novel AWK. Data yang  diperoleh tersebut selanjutnya dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan teknik membaca, mencatat, dan mengelompokkan kemudian diolah menggunakan metode deskriptif analisis dengan cara menjelaskan data lalu dianalisis secara mendalam.

Hasil dari penelitian ini bisa dibedakan menjadi tiga, yaitu (1) Tahap pembentukan identitas diri yang berupa eksplorasi dan komitmen. (2) wujud identitas diri yang dimiliki oleh tokoh Sumirah dapat dibedakan menjadi tiga jenis yaitu identitas personal yang tersusun atas rasa percaya diri, pola pikir sempit, tamatan SD, dan kafir. Identitas keluarga yang tersusun atas miskin dan kaum penghayat kepercayaan. Identitas etis moral yang tersusun atas rasa sabar dan toleransi yang dimiliki tokoh Sumirah. (3) Faktor yang mempengaruhi terbentuknya identitas diri bisa dibedakan menjadi dua yaitu faktor diri atau kepribadian tokoh dan faktor keluarga. Faktor diri terdiri atas semangatnya yang tinggi, sikap mandiri, dan kekuatan ego yang dimiliki Sumirah. Sedangkan faktor keluarga terdiri atas pola asuh, kedekatan dengan keluarga, dan komunikasi yang dimiliki antara Sumirah dengan keluarganya.

Self-identity is a characteristic possessed by individuals to distinguishthemselves from others. Self-identity is formed from the identity versus identity convusion stage, at this stage it is called the stage of identity crisis experienced by individuals. The result of the process of finding one's identity will thenproduce self-identity. In connection with the description of the story in the novel AWK by Tulus Setiyadi which contains the process of discovering the identity of the character Sumirah. Self-identity is part of the individual, because if the individual does not have an identity, he will experience confusion over identity in his life. Therefore, self-identity is used as the subject of this research.

Based on this explanation, the formulation of the research problem can be taken as follows, (1) What are the stages of the self-identity discovery process, (2) What is the form of self-identity, and (3) What factors influence the formation of the self-identity of Sumirah's character in the novel AWK. The purpose of this study is to explain the process of forming self-identity in the stages of identity versus identity convusion, the form of self-identity, and the factors that influence the existence of that identity.

This research is classified as a qualitative descriptive study using Erik H Erikson's psychological theory of literature. The data in this study were obtained from words and sentences contained in the novel AWK. The data obtained were then collected using reading, recording, and grouping techniques then processe d using descriptive analysis methods by explaining the data and then being analyzed in depth.

The results of this study can be divided into three, namely (1) The stage of self-identity formation in the form of exploration and commitment. (2) the form Of self-identity possessed by Sumirah's character can be divided into three types, namely personal identity which is composed of self-confidence, narrow mindset, elementary school graduate, and infidel. Family identity which is composed of the poor and believers. Moral ethical identity which is composed of patience and tolerance possessed by Sumirah's character. (3) Factors that influence the formation of self-identity can be divided into two, namely self-factor or personality of the character and family factors. The self factor consists of high enthusiasm, independent attitude, and the power of the ego that Sumirah has. While family factors consist of parenting, closeness to family, and communication between Sumirah and her family.
