Abstrak
The Effectiveness of the Election Supervisory
Body in Handling Election Violations in the City of Surabaya.

Indonesian citizens and every individual have the same
rights in determining their choice with the basic principles including direct,
general, free, secret, honest, and fair (Luber Jurdil), which means that voters
cast their votes directly without intermediaries coming to the polling station
(TPS) and choosing their own candidate of choice. General means that all
citizens who meet the voting requirements, for example, are at least 17 years
old or married, without discrimination. Free, voters are free to determine
their choice without pressure, coercion, or intimidation from any party,
Secret, voters' choices must not be known to others; carried out in a closed
voting booth. Jurdil or Honest and Fair, meaning that the general election
process is carried out with honesty from all parties, from the organizers,
election participants, so that all election participants receive the same
treatment, without discrimination or bias from the organizers. To achieve this,
Bawaslu must refer to the applicable laws and regulations, namely the General
Election Supervisory Body. Bawaslu was formed based on Law Number 7 of 2017
concerning General Elections and has the following duties and authorities:
1. Supervising the implementation of elections at all
levels.
2. Following up on reports of alleged election
violations.
3. Preparing and implementing election supervision
guidelines.
4. Following up on administrative violations and criminal
violations of the election.
5. Providing recommendations to related institutions on
findings of violations.
Keywords: The Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) has an
important role in implementing supervision of the implementation of the General
