SOCIAL CONSTRUCTION OF VILLAGE ULAMA ON EARTH ALMS CULTURE AND
RELIGION
By: Eko Purwanto
Abstract
This study aims to understand how
village ulama build social constructions related to earth alms culture in the
context of religion. Earth alms culture is a tradition that has been passed
down from generation to generation in many villages in Indonesia, and often has
deep roots in religious values. In this context, village scholars play an
important role as spiritual and cultural leaders in village communities.
The research method used in this
study is qualitative research with a case study approach. Data was collected
through in-depth interviews with village scholars and village community members
involved in the cultural practice of earth almsgiving. In addition, data is
also collected through participatory observation to understand more deeply how
this culture is carried out in everyday life.
The results showed that village
scholars have a very significant role in understanding, explaining, and
promoting earth alms culture in a religious context. They view earth alms as a
practice of profound significance in Islam (or any other religion they profess)
and as a way to maintain good relations with nature and rural communities. The
village scholars' social construction of the earth's alms culture also
influences how villagers view this practice, and this can have a positive
impact on the sustainability of this culture.
This research provides deeper
insight into the role of village scholars in maintaining and developing the
earth's alms culture in a religious context. The results of this study can also
be the basis for developing a more inclusive approach in promoting the
sustainability of traditional culture while maintaining religious values in
village communities.
