Istiyono is one of the painting artists who has visual characteristics in terms of deforming anatomy. The creative process to find his visual
characteristics is need to know. The Aims of this research is to 1) Describing the profile and the journey of
Istiono’s life. 2) Describes Istiyono’s creative process and
media work. 3) Analyze the visual characteristics of anatomical
deformation in Istiyono's paintings. This research is qualitative-descriptive research,
so that data collection techniques are done by observation, interview, and
documentation. The results of the study are 1) Istiyono is a autodidact artist was born in Nganjuk, September 27, 1963, who
is productive in his work, had been active in Koperjati community, and founded Jongaco
community in Nganjuk. 2) Istiyono's creative process in finding his visual characteristics is greatly
influenced by the course of his life.
Istiyono works more on conventional media by doing anatomical deformation, and
combined three styles: realism, impressionism, and deformative forms, in all of
his paintings. According to Rego (one of Nganjuk's artists) that identity is very
strong attached to Istiyono. There has never been an artist with visual characteristics
like Istiyono in Nganjuk Regency. 3) Based on the results of the analysis, karachteristic visual characteristic
of Istiyono’s anatomical deformation are:
the proportion of the head is reduced, tilted head gestures, tapered face on the chin,
long neck, slim waist, extended the
proportion of hands, pointed wrist, proportion of legs extended, enlarged hips, calves made prominent and tapering up to
the ankle.
