Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness merupakan bentuk cedera
yang sering terjadi setelah latihan. Saat delayed onset muscle
soreness terjadi tubuh akan mengalami penurunan kekuatan otot
dan peningkatan respons inflamasi atau derajat nyeri. Tujuan
penelitian pengaruh foam roller sebagai recovery aktif terhadap
perubahan derajat nyeri akibat delayed onset muscle soreness.
Jenis penelitian ini merupakan quasi eksperimental
dengan design Pretest-Postest Control Group Design. Populasi
dalam penelitian ini adalah Staff dan Karyawan Nextgen Sport
Academy berjenis kelamin laki-laki dan berusia 17-25 tahun.
Sampel penelitian ini berjumlah 16 orang yang diambil dari staff
dan karyawan Nextgen Sport Academy sertadipilih dengan
kriteria tertentu menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Peneliti
memberikan aktivitas Squat untuk mengintervensi munculnya
DOMS pada partisipan. Data I diambil 24 jam setelah aktivitas
Squat berlangsung, sedangkan data posttest diambil 48 jam setelah aktivitas Squat berlangsung. Hasil pengukuran data derajat nyeri
akibat delayed onset muscle soreness pada otot quadriceps
menggunakan alat Visual Analog Scale.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) Ada pengaruh
penggunaan Foam Roller terhadap penurunan derajat nyeri akibat
delayed onset muscle soreness dengan nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,008
sehingga 0,008 < 0,05, maka H0 ditolak dan H1 diterima. (2)
Terdapat perbedaan rata-rata derajat nyeri antara kelompok
eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol, dengan hasil perhitungan
nilai kelompok eksperimental dan keompok kontrol Sig.(2-tailed)
= 0.001 > 0,05, (3) Hasil penelitian pada kelompok eksperimen,
derajat nyeri otot quadriceps turun 54,14 %. Pada kelompok
kontrol, derajat nyeri otot quadriceps turun 17,38 %.
Peneliti dapat menyimpulkan bahwa penggunaan Foam
Roller dapat menurunkan derajat nyeri akibat DOMS pasca
aktivitas Squat. Prosedur pemanasan dan pendinginan perlu
diperhatikan dengan baik dan ikuti panduan penggunaan Foam
Roller dan bantuan praktisi jika dibutuhkan.

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness is a form of injury that often
occurs after exercise. When delayed onset muscle soreness occurs, the
body will experience a decrease in muscle strength and an increase in
the inflammatory response or degree of pain. The aim of the research is
the effect of the foam roller as active recovery on changes in the degree of
pain due to delayed onset muscle soreness.
This type of research is quasi-experimental with a Pretest-
Posttest Control Group Design. The population in this study was
Nextgen Sport Academy Staff and Employees, male and aged 17-25
years. The sample for this research consisted of 16 people taken from the
staff and employees of the Nextgen Sport Academy and selected
according to certain criteria using a purposive sampling technique.
Researchers provided squat activities to intervene in the emergence of
DOMS in participants. Data I was taken 24 hours after the squat
activity took place, while posttest data was taken 48 hours after the
squat activity took place. Results of data measuring the degree of pain due to delayed onset muscle soreness in the quadriceps muscle using the
Visual Analog Scale tool.
The results of the research show that (1) There is an effect of
using the Foam Roller on reducing the degree of pain due to delayed
onset muscle soreness with a significance value of 0.008 so that 0.008 <
0.05, so H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. (2) There is a difference in the
average degree of pain between the experimental group and the control
group, with the results of calculating the value of the experimental
group and the control group Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.001 > 0.05, (3) Research
results in the experimental group, degree quadriceps muscle pain
decreased by 54.14%. In the control group, the degree of quadriceps
muscle pain decreased by 17.38%.
Researchers can conclude that using a Foam Roller can reduce
the degree of pain caused by DOMS after squatting activities. Warming
and cooling procedures need to be carefully considered and follow the
instructions for using the Foam Roller and help from a practitioner if
needed.
